During the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons, Smith was the associate head coach at Oakland. The Golden Eagles were the No. 1 ranked junior college team in the nation for the last four weeks of the regular season and finished with a 30-2 overall record and a 14-1 league mark. Prior to his time at Cal State Northridge, Johnson spent three seasons on the bench at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Mo. Junior Manager Ivy came to Utah from the University of Arkansas, where she served as a graduate assistant academic counselor. While at Arkansas, Ivy worked with football, men’s bas- ketball and men’s track and field. She also worked in the compliance and sports information departments at Arkansas. Ivy also spent one year as a high school eng- lish/journalism teacher in Memphis, Tenn. Ivy was a four-year track and field athlete at University of Memphis, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sport science in 2002. Academics/Career Counseling Utah’s award-winning student-athlete support services fall under the jurisdic- tion of associate athletics director Mary Bowman. Among the services pro- vided are academic advising, career counseling job internships and the NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills program.

The Ute academic team monitors the studies of each student-athlete to ensure he or she is making progress toward a degree. The academic advisors also dispense their knowledge of departmental and University requirements, and assist with course registration and the exploration and selection of majors.

The daily physical care of the Utes is handled by the athletics training staff. Trevor Jameson is the athletic trainer for the Utah men’s basketball team and is in his 10th year at the U. This year he also accepted the position of Director of Sports Medicine for the athletic training program. Jameson and three other certified athletic trainers work full-time with Utah’s 18-sport varsity program. Switzler is also the clinical instructor for the ATEP program.

Dr. Bob Burks is in his 19th year the director of the Utah Sports Medicine Pro- gram. He is also an associate professor of orthopedic surgery at the U. Joining him on the Ute medical staff is fellow orthopedic surgeon Dr. Patrick Greis, and family practitioners Dr. Dave Petron, Dr. Liz Joy, Dr. Amy Powell and Dr. Deb Willardson Greg Argust Evan Simon Assoc. Greis, in his 12th year as a member of the Ute medical staff, is the assistant professor of surgery and works primarily with football. He received his un- dergraduate and medical school training at the University of Michigan.

Petron, an assistant professor of orthopedics and family medicine at the U., is in his 19th year as a member of the Ute medical staff. He is the medical director of Park City Mountain Resort and Park City Ski Injury Clinic, and a team phy- sician for the U.S. Ski Team.
