Matchday Programme Brought to You By National Premier League 2021 FLOREAT ATHENA Floreat Athena FOOTBALL CLUB vs. Armadale SC Round 10 Kick-Off Saturday, 08/05/2021 3.00 PM #70YearsStrong #OneAthena Matchday Programme brought to you by: Design and Content: Desiree Durrani Photographer: Owen Gregory PRESIDENTʼS WELCOME Welcome to all players, coaches and supporters to both clubs for our home matches against Armadale Soccer club. The next four days sees a big few days of home matches with our U18s, U20s and First team versus Armadale. This is then followed by our junior NPL teams who face Subiaco at home, and finally, our FFA cup quarter-final on Tuesday night at 7pm. Please try to get down to support the teams for these games. Last Saturday also saw 15 of our miniroos coaches complete a Skills Acquisition Training course which will further enhance the coaching our juniors continue to receive. Thank you to these coaches who continue to up-skill themselves for the benefit of all the juniors in future years. All these coaches are volunteers and the time and effort they put into coaching and being role models the kids can look up to is something they should all be proud of. In other news, the board is continuing to regularly meet with the City of Vincent in regards to the clubroom upgrade and new change rooms as well as the training lights upgrade to Britannia reserve. We foresee this project should have some finalised plans in approximately two months. Please enjoy the hospitality of the club in the canteen and bar and here’s to three matches played in good spirits. Con Poulis FAFC President FAFC COMMITTEE Peter Kapsanis Nick Farrell Kim Macpherson Sam Albanis Vice-President Treasurer Secretary Committee Member Andrew Kailis Gabriel Tana Lesa Thomson Steven Belk Committee Member Committee Member Committee Member Committee Member FIRST TEAM COACHʼS WELCOME I would like to welcome our visiting players, sponsors, supporters and officials to Litis Stadium for the Round 10 fixture versus Armadale. The last three weeks have again seen some good performances and results from our boys. Round 8 was a tough encounter against Sorrento. After taking an early lead, Sorrento were able to fight back to score two goals and take the lead into the halftime break. In the second half, we were able to regain control and apply a lot of pressure. We eventually equalised and were unlucky not to walk away with the three points especially after having three goals disallowed. Last week, we travelled to Edith Cowan University (ECU) to take on second place ECU Joondalup. A victory was very important for us as they had game in-hand and draw would still give them an opportunity to go above us in the coming weeks. After conceding an early goal we were able to remain calm and maintain our game plan to equalise and then take the lead shortly after. Our experienced boys really stood up particularly in the 2nd half where out defensive organisation made it very difficult for ECU to break through allowing us to walk away with a 2-1 victory. Todays clash with Armadale will be a tough encounter as it always is. We need to maintain our focus and high level of play if we are to continue our great form. Finally I would like to thank the Club, volunteers, sponsors, and fans for the their ongoing support, hopefully we can celebrate another victory. We come off the back of a good performance away from home last week against ECU, our first away win of the season and some very nice football was played. Armadale SC have always been tough competitors and I don't believe that their result against Bayswater last week truly reflected their game. It has been a tough month or so for the squad with some less than acceptable results but hopefully following our win at ECU we have turned a corner now and we can begin to kick on and make a chase of the top 4, where we set our ambitions earlier this year. Good luck to Frank and Vas today, I'm sure it will be a good day of football as it always is here at Litis Stadium. Lastly, a special mention to my assistant Ryan Banks who often goes unnoticed however is always putting in the hard work behind the scenes to make sure we are ready to go come match day. I extend a warm welcome to all players, coaches and supporters to Litis Stadium. Last week’s game against ECU Joondalup was a game of two halves, we played poorly in the first half and dominated the second half, unfortunately we were unable to bridge the gap in goals, and lost 3-1. Today’s opponents will be another difficult game and we will have to play well over 90 minutes to be competitive. We look forward to the challenge. The 2010/11 year has been a successful one continuing on from recent years under the stewardship of our former Chairman, Kevin Campbell, whom I must sincerely commend for handing the organisation on in such a fine state. As you will note from the financial statements that follow, we have continued to improve our financial position with a modest but handy surplus. Whilst a surplus is always nice, Football West is about much more than that. It allows us to trade through the lean times without the need for an overdraft facility. The breadth and extent of some our various programs never ceases to amaze me. Whilst on the subject of finances, the Board and I continue to be aware of the increasing cost of playing sport, and this season we were pleased to be able to put a freeze on the fees you pay to be part of the World game.
