Accommodation – Hostivař dormitory

Internal students are staying at the Hostivař dormitory. Address: Weilova 2, 100 00, Prague 10. The reception desk is open 24 hours a day; phone number +420 267 215 211. At the reception desk, you will receive: • a chip card (to enter the dormitory); • a hotel card (to enter the cafeteria); • keys to your room.

4 It is not allowed to give your cards to another person. Please carry the chip card always with you. Internet – WiFi You can connect to the internet over wifi in your room in Hostivař. Login details: network LSSS – password LSSS.FF2019 Getting from the dormitory to city centre There are several ways how to get from the dormitory (Nádraží Hostivař) to the faculty building (metro station Staroměstská). The journey takes about 45 minutes. • bus no. 125 to Skalka + metro A to Staroměstská • tram no. 26 to Strašnická + metro A to Staroměstská • train to Praha – Strašnice + bus no. 188 to Strašnická + metro A to Staroměstská • train to Praha – Hlavní nádraží + metro C to Muzeum + metro A to Staroměstská Dormitory rules • Keep the quiet hours from 22:00 to 6:00; during quiet hours, you shouldn’t play musical instruments, sing, shout or slam the doors. • Close and lock the door to your room to prevent theft. • Make the room available for cleaning which takes place between 9:00 and 12:00. • Pay attention to the designated meal hours and leave the cafeteria at the latest 20 minutes after the meal hours. Visits of your friends and family All visitors need to sign the visitor book at the reception desk. If you want to book a room for a family member or friend, please contact the dormitory’s accommodation office. You can order meals for them in the cafeteria. Facilities at the dormitory • The entrance hall contains a study room, copy machine and vending machines for coffee, tea, soft drinks and snacks; the reception desk sells sandwiches. • Kitchenette and 2 fridges on each floor.

Hostivař dormitory cafeteria

• 1st floor (go up the stairs next to the reception desk). • The cafeteria (or “menza”) serves breakfasts and dinners, and lunches during the weekend. • On Saturday 3 August and 17 August (day trip), you will get a package lunch at breakfast. • On Friday 23 August (departure day), you will only get breakfast and a package for your journey home. • On weekdays, you can find your own lunch anywhere in the city centre.

Lunches on weekdays You will receive meal vouchers (Ticket Restaurant) worth CZK 140 for which you can buy lunch in most restaurants. Feel free to pick any restaurant you like. Ticket Restaurant vouchers are also accepted in shops that display their logo. You can get more information from your teacher or on our website and Facebook page.

Opening ceremony

Saturday 27 July 2019, 9:30–10:30 at the Main Hall (“Velká aula”) of Karolinum, Ovocný trh 3, Praha 1 (metro stop Můstek). Official welcome, chamber concert. We will leave Hostivař dormitory together at 8:30.

Orientation walk

Sunday 28 July 2019 from 14:00. We will meet outside the Hostivař dormitory. You will learn more about the dormitory’s neighbourhood and how to get to the city centre where you’ll have your classes. The walk will be interpreted into English, Russian, German, French, Spanish and Polish, as required.

Reception at the Hall

On Tuesday 30 July 2019 from 15:00, LŠSS students will be officially welcomed by representatives of the Mayor of Prague at the Old Town Hall.

Course levels

Morning courses are divided into groups by language level. Group I Language course for beginners based on English (German, French). 5x45 minutes every day, 9:00–13:15. Phonetics courses

For the entire duration of the LŠSS, we are offering phonetics courses taught by specialists from the FF UK’s Institute of Phonetics, rooms 12–18 on ground floor. Certificates and closing ceremony

There are 120 hours of classes at the LŠSS and students who successfully pass them can receive 8 ECST credits. You will receive the certificate from the 63rd Sumer School of Slavonic Studies and a report with your final grades during the closing ceremony at the Velká aula of the Karolinum (Ovocný trh 3, Prague 1) on Thursday 22 August from 15:00. The farewell party and dinner take place on the evening of 22 August from 19:00 at the Hostivař cafeteria.

14 Trips

You will be able to register for weekend trips online. Your teachers will give you the details on Monday 29 July 2019. You can register (or cancel your registration) from Monday 13:00 to Friday 9:00. You need to reserve your seat if you want to come! The buses leave Hostivař dormitory on Saturdays at 8:30 and on Sundays at 12:30. You can find a detailed schedule and more information in the CALENDAR, on the website, on our Facebook page and on notice boards.

Internet at FF UK

FF UK uses the eduroam wifi network. You can connect to it with the login credentials from your university (www.eduroam.org). If your university does not take part in this international project, the LŠSS office can give you a UK-visitors login and password.

Printing and copying

You can print and copy documents in room 422 on the 4th floor. You will find the opening times on notice boards and on our websites.

Health

If you have any health problems, please contact Simona Drtinová (LŠSS office in room 304) who will arrange a medical examination and interpreters for you. To see a doctor, you will need: • your health insurance card • money in cash (large hospitals also accept cards). The fee that you will pay depends on the terms and conditions of your health insurance (country of origin, contracts with doctors, co-insurance limits etc.). If you decide to see a doctor on your own and do not understand everything that’s written in your medical report in Czech, please contact Simona Drtinová, your teacher or an interpreter whom you trust. This will prevent any complications caused by incorrect treatment.
