TALL TIMBERS OWNERS NEWSLETTER | AUGUST 2019 PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful Fourth of July weekend. We are thankful we dodged Tropical Storm Barry, with no damage to our subdivision. Our goal is to have all residents sign up for text alerts for any emergencies we TTOA OFFICERS may encounter; text alerts provides updates and informs if an evacuation has been ordered. In the meantime, consider use of Nextdoor. Nextdoor is a social network President- Gilbert Crowden for your neighborhood and a good way to stay informed. When posting (504) 329-6640 information pertaining to Tall Timbers Subdivision, you can elect to send the message to only Tall Timbers residents and not have your message viewed by the Vice President- Laura Calcagno entire Westbank. (504) 931-8504 During Tropical Storm Barry, the City of New Orleans and Councilwoman Palmer’s office did a great job keeping residents informed, as well as informing Secretary- Lisa Diggs Algiers President’s Council. This communication allowed me to post updates as [email protected] they were received. Tropical Storm Barry served as a good practice run, let’s continue to be prepared for all weather events. Treasurer- Jay Fielding Summer is coming to an end and Eisenhower School will open August 5, 2019. (504) 388-0174 Remember we live in a school zone, and residents should adhere to the posted speed limit. If residents continue to ignore the speed limit in the subdivision, we COMMITTEE CHAIRS will request the city to install speed cameras. A gentle reminder, the school was Legal- John Waters here when you moved here. This request is to keep students and Tall Timbers residents safe. Security- Danny Ellis I continue to get phone calls and emails from residents about lose pets. Complaints are numerous and has gotten out of control. Please if you own a dog, Architectural- Tom Reeves check to ensure your fence and gates are secured. Too many large dogs are terrorizing our neighborhood and residents. I would also ask residents to keep your Special Events- Ricky Scaggs dog(s) on the leach when walking them, and don’t forget to clean up after your dogs. No resident wants to walk in your dog’s waste, nor clean up after your dog. TTOA residents are witnessing many residents turning their dogs lose in Collins Park Beautification- to do their business. Collins Park is not a dog park. There are TTOA residents that play in the park with their kids. We don’t want to get to a point where pets are not Newsletter- Donna Glover allowed in the park. Finally, we are approaching the eighth month of the year- August, and currently Section Reps- Alida Johnson 19% of TTOA residents have not paid their TTOA dues. Dues are not an optional fee, it is mandatory. Tall Timbers Security I encourage those that have not paid their dues to pay now versus later. TTOA Office: (504) 393-2923 Cell: (504) 202-8690 board will not waive late fees, court fees or attorney fees. Everyone has had a chance to make payment arrangements with our treasurer. Delinquent dues are Tall Timbers web address: no longer turned over to a collection agency, we deal directly with the courts. http://talltimbersnola.org Enjoy the rest of your summer. If you are not traveling, enjoy the city by being a tourist in your hometown. See you around the neighborhood! August 11 marks the end of the Dog Days of Summer, which began on July 3. August 2019 | Fun Things to Do What You Should Know Satchmo SummerFest Articles in the newsletter may be repeated. The intent August 2-4 isn’t to be redundant, but to inform and encourage all New Orleans Jazz Museum at the Mint TTOA residents to prepare, so all can remain safe. Southern Decadence Larry Geary: Office: (504) 393-2923 August 29 – September 2 Cell: (504) 202-8690 French Quarter * * * Gentle Reminder – Regarding Parking Parking in the wrong direction is a safety hazard. When parking on a two-way street, cars should be parked with the right-hand wheels parallel to the curb. When parking in the wrong direction, you are crossing traffic illegally to park, and when pulling out you are once again crossing traffic illegally. This is dangerous. Vehicles should be parked facing in the same direction as traffic. New Orleans Department of Public Works/Parking Division issues citations when parking regulations are violated. Hurricanes and Tropical Weather During hurricane season (June 1st toPreparedness November 30th), dangers from storms include high winds, heavy rain, tornadoes, flooding, and power outages. Depending on a storm’s severity, the City of New Orleans might issue a mandatory evacuation order. If the City issues a mandatory evacuation, all residents and visitors must leave. If an evacuation is not ordered, it's up to you to decide to evacuate or shelter in place. Shelter in place (Find a safe location indoors and stay there until you are given an “all clear” or told to evacuate.) Gather what you’ll need to shelter in place • Non-perishable food for 3 days • 3 gallons of water per person • Manual can opener • Flashlight & extra batteries • Matches or lighter • First Aid Kit • Week’s supply of prescription medications • Radio (battery operated or hand crank) • Books & games Prepare for power & water outages • Sign up for the special needs registry if you need power for medical equipment. • Fill your bathtub with water to clean and flush toilets. • Turn your fridge to its lowest temperature. • Charge electronic devices. • Preserve cell phone battery life. • Stay away from low-hanging or downed power lines. Stay safe and informed • Bring pets inside. • Lock doors and windows. Close curtains and blinds. • Stay inside until officials say otherwise. • Call 911 in an emergency. Call 311 for information or to report non-emergency service requests like downed trees. • Storms can be scary for children. Talk to your family about what’s happening and keep games and toys on hand to entertain. Visit ready.nola.gov/plan/hurricane/ for additional information.
