  • Lou Dibella – Khurtsidze Can Crush
LOU DIBELLA – KHURTSIDZE CAN CRUSH SAUNDERS’ DREAMS Billy Joe Saunders has been warned that his dreams of facing the winner of Canelo Alvarez v Gennady Golovkin will be ruined by the desire of Avtandil Khurtsidze. Undefeated Saunders, 27, makes the second defence his WBO Middleweight title against the colourful Georgian at London’s Copper Box Arena on July 8, live on BT Sport and BoxNation. Khurtsidze sealed his status as mandatory contender for the Hatfield traveller’s World crown with a fifth round win over Tommy Langford in Leicester on April 30. It was his sixth consecutive KO win since moving to Brooklyn and signing with Lou DiBella, one of the World’s leading promoters. Saunders narrowly beat another DiBella boxer Artur Akavov in December and the New York promoter believes the Briton faces an even tougher night against Khurtsidze who has won 33 of his 37 fights. DiBella said: “Billy Joe is a very skilled fighter, but you never know which Billy Joe is going to show up. “The fight with Akavov was a close, competitive fight. No one predicted that and Billy Joe hasn’t looked the best of himself in a long time. “The one thing about Khurtsidze is that he’s hungrier than Billy Joe, he’s relentless with his attacks and capable of doing damage at any stage of the fight. “Khurtsidze could be down by four or five rounds and still mount offensive attacks that could win him the fight. “He is dangerous from the first bell until the end of the 12th round.” With the IBF, WBA and WBC belts on the line when Canelo and GGG meet in September, the winner of Saunders v Khurtsidze will be in line for a huge payday and the chance to become undisputed World Middleweight Champion against the victor.

  • Arthur Abraham: “Stieglitz Doesn’T Have the Power to Threaten Me
Arthur Abraham: “Stieglitz doesn’t have the power to threaten me March 23 shall represent another glorious day for Arthur Abraham (36-3, 28 KOs). Then he will meet Robert Stieglitz (43-3, 24 KOs) for their hotly anticipated rematch inside the GETEC-Arena in Magdeburg, Germany. The 33-year-old Abraham captured the WBO Super-Middleweight World Championship last August when he beat Stieglitz on points in his hometown of Berlin. This time the champion is making his way to his opponent’s backyard. In the following interview, he reveals what kind of performance can be expected from him. Mister Abraham, the last time people saw you putting on the gloves you beat Frenchman Mehdi Bouadla by technical knockout on December 15. Were you satisfied with your first title defense at super-middleweight? Arthur Abraham: I guess that I showed quite a good performance against Bouadla. There might have been some details I could have done better but in the end, I dominated my opponent that night and took care of him early. In preparation to that fight Mister Wegner told me his expectations and I must have fulfilled most of them. Anyway, he didn’t complain to me afterwards. March 23 will mark the second time you are going to face Robert Stieglitz. Is there anything left you can surprise him with – or could he surprise you? Arthur Abraham: Stieglitz hasn’t seen the best that Arthur Abraham has to offer in our first fight whereas he might have already shown everything he’s got. I have some words for him: Beware, because our rematch is going to be much tougher than the first fight! I’m training as hard as ever for this clash.

  • Claressa Shields Sport: Boxing Biography
Name: Claressa Shields Sport: Boxing Biography: Seventeen-year-old Claressa Shields enjoyed an eventful summer prior to starting her senior year in high school. The Flint Northwestern High School senior made history simply advancing to the London Games, the first-ever in the sport of women’s boxing. The event was a culmination of years of work for she and her lifetime trainer, Jason Crutchfield, but just earning a berth at the Olympic Games wasn’t enough for this teenager. She wanted nothing but gold and with three strong wins in London, she accomplished her goal. In 2012, Claressa was titled as 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist, 2012 Women’s Continental Champion, and 2012 U.S. Team Trials Champion and Outstanding Boxer Shields took up boxing as an 11-year-old after hearing her father talk about Laila Ali. She initially thought he wanted her to box but quickly learned after asking for his permission that he wasn’t exactly keen on the idea. He eventually came around after a family vote with Shields’ stepmother, and she’s been a force to reckon with ever since. A proud Flint native, Shields wanted badly to bring something positive to her hometown, which hasn’t had much to celebrate recently. She understands the importance of being a role model to the young people in her community and has been overwhelmed by the unbelievable outpouring of support she has received since returning from London with her gold medal. She was welcomed at the airport by over 500 well-wishers and can’t go anywhere in her hometown without being stopped for photos and autographs and she refuses to disappoint anyone.
