Renowned for his abstract studies of nudes, Brandt also produced a collection of portraits of some of the most celebrated artists and writers of the 20th Century, including Pablo Picasso, Dylan Thomas, Rene Magritte, and Francis Bacon. The personal life of the man behind the lens, however, was mysterious and enigmatic. Brandt was honored internationally for his accomplishments until his death in 1983.
