HEAD TO HEAD

- Ireland and Italy have faced off on 20 occasions in the Six Nations – with Ireland winning 19 of these meetings. The lone Italian win came in March 2013, and they’ve only won a single game since that date in the competition.

- While Ireland have claimed victory in each of their 10 home Six Nations clashes with Italy, they gave up a record amount of points against them the last time they hosted this fixture – a 56-19 success in February 2018.

- The average margin of victory when Ireland host Italy in the Six Nations is 26.2 points – however, Ireland went five straight home games against Italy between 2002 and 2010 without a winning margin higher than 18 points.

- The sides have met in Round 4 on four separate occasions, with Ireland, predictably, coming out on top in each, by a combined scoreline of 155-42.

- Ireland have restricted Italy to 10 points or fewer in the first half of each of their 10 home games against the Azzurri in the Six Nations, preventing them from scoring a single first-half point in four of those fixtures, including their most recent clash in Dublin.

Ireland, conversely, have the fewest opposition 22 entries per match (6,3) but produce over twice as many points per entry (1.68) than their opponents Italy.

- Italy have out-carried Ireland by 167m per game in the Six Nations thus far, however, Ireland have produced more line breaks (5.7) per game than the Italians (4.0).

- Ireland have lost just one of their last 18 home Six Nations games (a 32-20 defeat to England), with only one of their wins in at that run coming by less than a converted try.

- The 17 points Italy conceded in their previous match against Scotland was actually their best defensive showing in a Six Nations clash since a 22-15 win over Ireland in March 2013. They had conceded 19 points or more in the 32 games since then.
