Interns work 400 hours full-time during the summer or 200 hours part-time during the school year, with PILI funding their stipends, ensuring quality supervision by experienced agency attorneys, and providing supplemental educational, networking and mentoring opportunities. Through this program, PILI helps our partner agencies increase their impact while also helping law students develop their legal and client interaction skills, build their professional networks, and strengthen their commitment to public interest law and service. We are excited about this big new step to better support the next generation of public interest lawyers. www.pili.org/internships 3 Graduate Fellowship Program Through the PILI Graduate Fellowship Program, new associates at Chicago law firms spend 300 hours between graduation and joining their firm working at public interest law organizations in Illinois. PILI ensures quality supervision by experienced legal aid attorneys and provides supplemental educational, networking and mentoring opportunities. These public interest lawyers span the globe and the profession: from firm and corporate attorneys, to members of the government sector and the judiciary, to members of the higher education and public interest law sectors. PILI’s Alumni Network builds and maintains the connection between past PILI Interns and Fellows and the public interest law community through educational, networking, service, and leadership opportunities. PILI Alumni activities are guided by the PILI Alumni Network Leadership Council, a group of Alumni leaders from different sectors of the legal profession who are committed to staying connected to PILI and to public interest law. The Council plans CLE programs, organizes service opportunities, raises money to support PILI’s programs, and promotes involvement with PILI to the broader legal community. Through our Pro Bono Initiative, we offer a wide range of pro bono programming and resources, we develop innovative projects and cultivate best practices, and we celebrate ongoing pro bono service to enhance the scope and quantity of pro bono legal assistance in Illinois. Pro Bono Roundtables and Forums: These events bring together pro bono leaders from law firms, corporations, legal service agencies and law schools to discuss timely pro bono issues, challenges and best practices. The Pro Bono Roundtables allow for unique constituent group-specific conversations, while the Forums bring everyone together for in- depth discussion among a cross-section of the legal profession.
