Coming dead last in the third race after stalling on the start line the boys said they "bounced along, then took the right hand side of the course, powered up, and smoked it". What a jam-packed summer for Southport Yacht Club Members!

To celebrate the first day of summer Southport Yacht Club’s Sailing Academy hosted the second Annual Dulux Dash for Cash.

Sixty-six boats (including a number of Southport Yacht Club’s outrigging canoes) representing thirty-three different classes of sailing boats with four divisions, raced the Crab Island course for a share in $1600 cash prizes, thanks to sponsor Dulux.

Southport Yacht Club’s Sailing Manager Shane Smith was the overall winner on a Foiling Moth who kindly donated, along with other winners, their prize money back to the Club’s Blazer Fund for purchasing much needed boats for the Sailing Academy.

The Club immersed itself in Christmas celebrations with the annual Kids Christmas Carnival held at the Sailing Academy, Hollywell followed by the annual Carols on the Broadwater featuring the fantastic voices of the Queensland Youth Choir in aid of the Salvation Army before celebrating the coming New Year with hundreds of Members enjoying the live band the Beach Boyz and some crazy Gilligan’s Island adventures re-enacted in spite of the inclement weather.

Many of Southport Yacht Club’s sailors spent Christmas and New Year’s Eve interstate representing the Club in events such as: the highly anticipated Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, 44th Australian Sabot Championships, Sydney International Regatta, Australian 29er Championships, 29er World Championships and many more.
