According to the World Travel & Tourism Council, is poised to emerge as the second fastest growing (8.8%) tourism economy in the world over 2005-14. In 2007, around 5 million tourists arrived in India and spent nearly $11 billion. A mix of marketing initiatives and revived IIIIIInnnnnnttttttrrrrrroooooodddddduuuuuuccccccttttttiiiiiioooooonnnnnn interest in India as a tourist destination is making India an attractive tourist destination for the foreign traveler.

Tourism is an increasingly widespread and complex activity, which requires sophisticated management to realize its full potential as a positive and sustainable economic, environmental, social and cultural force. The economic impact of tourism places tourism roughly at the same global order of magnitude as agriculture or mining. According to World Tourism and Travel Council (WTTC) (www.wttc.org ), the major organization representing the global tourism industry, 215 million jobs were dependent on the ”Tourism economy‘ in 2004. As tourism has become an integral part of modern society, its study and analysis becomes imperative if its potential economic and social benefits are to be maximized and developed in a manner consistent with society‘s goals.

This International Conference on Tourism is being jointly organized by IIM Lucknow and IIM khozikhode from April 8 - 10 2009 . The Conference aims at bringing together the researchers in the field of tourism management who are working in the various aspects of tourism in India. THEMES Contributors are invited to submit papers relating to any aspect of the conference themes listed below or in related areas. Papers may be theoretical or empirical, including case studies.

Authors are invited to submit abstracts (up to 6 pages, single spaced, A4 size, any sans-serif font, 12 point size, 1 inch margins on all sides, APA style in all other aspects) in either Microsoft word (.doc), openoffice.org (.odt/.sxw), or generic rich text format (.rtf). The abstracts may be sent as email attachment to [email protected] .

Electronic uploads of the abstracts is also possible by following the link provided in the websites of partnering institutions. In situations where, electronic submission is not possible, three copies of the abstract may be sent to the postal address provided.

The abstract must contain the title of the paper, authors and their institutional affiliations, full address for correspondence including the email ID of the corresponding author in the cover page. The main text of the abstract must include the

research problem, methodology, major conclusions/findings and the references, or a summary of the work in the case of case studies and other similar works.

All abstracts will be reviewed by a committee and based on the relevance of the paper to the theme of the conference, and its potential to contribute to advancement of knowledge in the area; the abstracts will be accepted, accepted subject to modifications or rejected.

The formatting instructions are the same for the full paper. The cover page must contain the title of the paper, authors and their institutional affiliations, full address for correspondence including the email ID of the corresponding author. The authors must not be identified anywhere in the body of the paper. Submission of paper and its acceptance imply that one of the authors will register and attend the conference and make a presentation of the paper.

The organizers reserve the right to publish selected papers as proceedings of the conference in any form deemed fit including in book form, special editions, electronic publishing, making available the contents via digital library etc.

All the selected papers will be published in the proceedings and after further screening the best few will be published in book form.
