The St. Joseph Civic Arena was opened in October 1980, and is a multi-use facility. Since opening, the arena has hosted five national televised boxing matches and been home to videos for the Oak Ridge Boys and Sawyer Brown. Barbara Mandrell produced a television event with her performance at the Civic Arena as well. The arena has also hosted numerous conventions and meetings featuring the Missouri State Lions Club, the Order of the Eastern Star, TOPS, Barbershoppers Convention, Hand Bell Ringers, and Healthy Communities Summit to name a few. The Youth Choir acts as ambassadors for the Cherokee Naon, their beauful voices showing the strength of the Cherokee Naon and its culture for more than 160 years a8er the Cherokees’ forced removal from their eastern homelands. The goal of the CNYC is to increase awareness among the Cherokee and dominant cultures within the Cherokee Naon. CNYC was formed as a way to kee youth involved in the Cherokee language and culture. Sawyer Brown Country Music Band They've been called the Rolling Stones of country music, and really, that's no exaggeration. For 20 years, Sawyer Brown has set the pace and continues to go the distance with fresh, fun and relevant songs that challenge themselves as musicians while creating personal experiences for their listeners. And their live shows - over 3,000 (and counting!) - are legendary for the excitement, energy and emotion they generate. Herein lies the secret of the band's youthful longevity. Vocalist Mark Miller, keyboardist Gregg "Hobie" Hubbard, lead guitarist Duncan Cameron, bassist Jim Scholten and drummer Joe Smyth mark this phenomenal two-decade milestone with the release of their 18th album, Can You Hear Me Now, in March. The first single, Circles, is already impacting radio. While Sawyer Brown is a country music powerhouse, it's the "real people" that comprise the band, and each bring an individual, albeit thoroughly complementary perspective to the creative process. The troupe, composed of 24 members ranging in ages from 10 to 13 years, are junior high school students who attend Taipei city schools. The group visited RCSHS for a morning program then gave a public performance, as an Arts in Morehead (AIM) special event, at MSU's Academic-Athletic Center in the evening. Before departing the region, the Kentucky visitors went horseback riding at MSU's Derrickson Agricultural Complex.
