WELCOME to FRINGE Welcome to the 9th annual Kansas City Fringe Festival! Thanks to our amazing group of over 200 volunteers we are able to produce the KC Fringe Festival — an eleven day celebration of all things art in Kansas City. The Board of Direc- tor and Committee of Operations includes more than 20 volunteers that work year round to make this Festival happen. All of these volunteers I consider family — the Fringe Family. A growing community that comes together to work, support and promote artists of all genres. Here in KC we host one of the most diverse Fringes in existence. We provide space for ANY artist of ANY genre to present their work — as long as we have room for them! The KC Fringe Festival continues to get bigger and better each year. This year the Festival presents 134 art- ists/groups performing 363 shows along with the Fruck! (That’s the Fringe Art Truck) We have developed a diverse and huge audience that continues to grow each year. KC Fringe has truly become Kansas City’s Premiere Arts Festival and is a key component of Kansas City’s grow- ing reputation as America’s Creative Crossroads. I trust that most of you know that the Fringe is an unjuried, uncensored arts Festival and therefore unpredictable! BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH Dr. George Ehrlich, emeritus professor of Art History at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, was born in Chicago, Illinois, on January 28, 1925. His education was primarily taken at the University of Illinois, from which he received B.S. (Honors), 1949, M.F.A., 1951, and Ph.D., 1960. His studies there included art history, sculpture, architecture, history, and English literature. Dr. Ehrlich served as a member of the United States Army Air Force, 1943- 1946. He was recalled to active duty, 1951-1953 as a First Lieutenant. Dr. Ehrlich joined the faculty at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1954. -

The Jeffersonian approach to Indian-white relations ostensibly planned for assimilation after the Natives voluntarily relocated to the west. Jefferson and his disciples had differing opinions about the Natives but believed they had the same rights to life, liberty, and property as the whites, and that they expected the United States to uphold honorably all treaties and obligations between them. While not the only advocate of the policy named in his honor, he was the first executive given the power and authority by Congress to treat Native Americans as he saw fit.2 The president envisioned much of the area west of the Mississippi as a land where the Indians could live completely separated from white society east of the river. -

Broadcast Localism MB Docket No. 04-233 Comment Summary states that while several regional networks deliver syndicated agriculture news to a number ofNebraska radio stations, this does not meet farmers' and ranchers' need for farm news from their local area. NFBF states that while it has been suggested that the gap in radio farm news can be filled by such other services as Internet websites and subscription-based market advisory services, these services lack the ability to be with the farmer as he moves throughout the work day. NFBF states that only radio has the ability to move with the farmer as he moves through his day. NFBF also states that because farmers do not set the prices for their commodities, they need to be constantly informed ofmarket price movement in order to take advantage ofselling opportunities when they occur. According to NFBF, Nebraska has been affected by the trend since the late 1990s oflarge ownership groups acquiring hundreds ofradio licenses following changes in media ownership rules. NFBF states that to a greater degree than before the changes in ownership rules, programming on local stations is now being driven by a corporate headquarters that is much more concerned about the bottom line than serving the needs of the local community. NFBF states that in Nebraska, agriculture is the backbone ofthe economy ofboth the large cities and rural communities, and that farm news is vital because ofthe importance ofagriculture. NFBF states that national farm advertising has dropped 45 percent in the last five years, and local farm advertising declined even more. -
