• Bernard De Ventadorn - Poems
Classic Poetry Series Bernard de Ventadorn - poems - Publication Date: 2012 Publisher: Poemhunter.com - The World's Poetry Archive Bernard de Ventadorn(1150 - 1195) Bernart de Ventadorn also known as Bernard de Ventadour or Bernat del Ventadorn, was a prominent troubador of the classical age of troubadour poetry. Now thought of as "the Master Singer" he developed the cançons into a more formalized style which allowed for sudden turns. He is remembered for his mastery as well as popularisation of the trobar leu style, and for his prolific cançons, which helped define the genre and establish the "classical" form of courtly love poetry, to be imitated and reproduced throughout the remaining century and a half of troubadour activity. Bernart was known for being able to portray his woman as a divine agent in one moment and then in a sudden twist, portraying her as Eve, the cause of man's initial sin. This dichotomy in his work is portrayed in a "graceful, witty, and polished" medium. Life According to the troubadour Uc de Saint Circ, Bernart was possibly the son of a baker at the castle of Ventadour (Ventadorn), in today's Corrèze(France). Yet another source, a satirical poem written by a younger contemporary, Peire d'Alvernha, indicates that he was the son of either a servant, a soldier, or a baker, and his mother was also either a servant or a baker. From evidence given in Bernart's early poem Lo temps vai e ven e vire, he most likely learned the art of singing and writing from his protector, viscount Eble III of Ventadorn.

  • These Eyes Before
collidethese eyes before Classic yet Modern... If you’re already familiar with Collide, you surely know that the duo’s brave, forward-looking electronic sound is deeply grounded in a fusion of diverse influences (hence the band’s chosen name). Over the years, singer kaRIN and pro- ducer Statik have proven themselves to be gifted interpreters as well as courageous innovators – consider their brooding take on the Jefferson Airplane’s “White Rabbit”, a highlight of 2000’s landmark Chasing The Ghost, or their expansive take on Dusty Springfield’s “Son Of A Preacher Man”, from the remix set Distort, and the beloved anthem “The Lunatics are Taking Over the Asylum”, from their Vortex album. But nothing in the group’s history will sufficiently prepare you for These Eyes Before: a set of ten mainstream classics, each one completely reimagined by the imaginative pair. We don’t want to ruin all of Collide’s surprises, since part of the joy of listening to These Eyes Before is encountering familiar material with utterly refreshing arrangements. And you will be familiar with the playlist – any real music fan will be able to sing along to the tunes kaRIN and Statik have selected. Also, we don’t want to single out any highlights, because a project like this one is nothing but highlights. But we’d be remiss if we didn’t crow about the group’s flexibility, and their unerring ability to make songs of all kinds seem utterly consistent with the sound they’ve been developing for the past fifteen years. In their hands, “Space Oddity” becomes a gorgeous, jazzy, ethereal techno-rock stroll, and David Essex’s swaggering “Rock On” turns into a deliciously distorted slice of trip-hop.

Following are teaching materials that I hope you will find helpful when preparing for our visit: • Lesson plans/activities that will relate the music we will play to the science standards and student activities in this curriculum. Listed are state-mandated standards for each grade level of K-8 that can be supported by using our materials. The Sinfonia welcomes new ideas, so please send us any suggestions you think we could include for the next time we use this curriculum. • Master listening CD that includes full renditions of the music the Sinfonia will perform, recordings of songs the students will sing and the music the orchestra students will play. Please use this CD in your classroom daily, and feel free to add other classical recordings, too. • Music for student choirs to sing: Students’ Songs: Down by the Riverside. and It‘s Raining (to be sung in English and Spanish) are songs that your school choir will perform on concert day with the orchestra (for schools without choirs, the children in one or two grades can serve as the choir). For schools with advanced choirs, both songs have optional second voice parts, If you cannot play the accompaniments on a piano, then please use the computer-generated accompaniments at the end of the CD when teaching children the music.
