High School • Named 2018-19 Class 6A first team all-state. • Cited as the No. 43 shooting guard in the nation by 247Sports, No. 48 by ESPN and No. 49 by Rivals. • Scored 1,971 points (second-most in school history) in leading Kennedy Catholic to four-straight PIAA state championships. The first three came in Class 1A and the fourth after the school voluntarily reclassified to 6A. • Averaged 23 points per game in three 2018-19 state playoff games. Totaled 19 of his game-high 32 points in the second half of a 75-69 semifinal win over 29-2 Coatesville. • 2018-19 ATLANTIC 10 ALL-ROOKIE TEAM

As a Freshman (2018-19) • Started all 28 games in which he played. • Led the Atlantic 10 in assists per game (5.8) and finished second in steals per game (2.4) on his way to earning a spot on the A-10 All-Rookie Team. • Was just the fifth freshman in A-10 history - and second player in DU history - to lead the conference in assists (DU’s Martin Osimani led the A-10 in assists in 2003-04). • Ranked first among the nation’s freshmen in steals per game (14th overall nationally) and fifth among freshmen in assists per game (29th overall nationally). • Was the team’s second-leading scorer at 12.1 ppg. His 13.4 points per game in A-10 play was second only to Eric Williams Jr.’s 13.6 ppg. • His 161 assists were two shy of the freshman record of 163 set by Clayton Adams in 1987-88. • Had a 1.9-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio (161-to-83). • His 5.75 apg. average was the best-ever by a DU freshman and second-best in school history (since assists were first recorded as an official stat by the NCAA in 1983-84). • His 2.43 steals per game average was the second-best by a DU freshman, behind only T.J. McConnell’s 2.84 spg. in 2010-11. Added seven assists, five rebounds and five steals in the win. Played in integral role in holding Marshall’s Jon Elmore (21.4 ppg.) to 12 points on 2-of-11 shooting. • Had 15 points, six rebounds, six assists and six steals vs. Penn State. The six steals were most by a Duke since Nov. 18, 2011 (Eric Evans vs. UDC). Added 14 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals before fouling out of the 85-84 OT win over Eastern Kentucky to earn A-10 Rookie of the Week (Dec. 24). • Scored a team-high 17 points and limited A-10 Player of the Year Jon Axel Gudmundsson (17.8 ppg.) to 12 points (0-of-4 from 3-point) at David- son. Held Fordham’s Nick Honor (16.4 ppg.) - a fellow A-10 All-Rookie pick - to 11 points on 5-of-17 shooting on Jan. 9. • Had a team-high 21 points and six assists in helping the Dukes to their first win at Richmond since 1993 and followed that with 21 points, six rebounds and eight assists in 42 minutes in the OT win at GW to earn co-A-10 Rookie of the Week (Jan. 21). • Came back to post 14 of his 16 points and six of his seven assists in the second half to help DU erase a 19-point halftime deficit in the win over URI. • Scored 11 of his 14 in the second half of DU’s 18-point comeback at Fordham. • Missed four games due to knee soreness: Jan. 26 vs. VCU (L), Feb. 23 at George Mason (W), Feb. 27 at St. Bonaventure (L) and Mar. 2 vs. UMass (W). Had arthroscopic surgery on his knee on Feb. 26. • Made his return on Mar. 6 at Saint Louis.

High School • Averaged 23.3 points, 7.0 rebounds and 8.0 assists per game as a senior in earning first team All-Ohio honors. • Helped lead Solon to a school record 27 wins (27-2) and first Ohio High School Athletic Association state championship game appearance in 2017-18. • Averaged 28.0 points and 7.5 assists in state Division 1 final four games vs. Pickerington Central (29 points, 11 assists, five steals) and Archbishop Moeller (27 points). As a Junior (2018-19) • Played in back-to-back mid-December games vs. Maryland Eastern Shore and Maine. • Grabbed one rebound in two minutes vs. Maine.

As a Sophomore (2017-18) • Saw action in four games, including a season-high four minutes vs. Delaware State. • Scored a basket and posted his first career assist vs. DSU. • Also saw action vs. Maryland Eastern Shore, Mississippi Valley State and at Fordham.

As a Freshman (2016-17) • Made his debut and scored his first career basket in a three-minute stint in DU’s 96-66 win over UMass on Feb. 15.

Transferred to Duquesne in April of 2017 after playing in 36 games as a freshman at Akron in 2016-17.

As a Sophomore (2018-19) • Came off the bench in 28 of 32 games on his way to earning A-10 Sixth Man of the Year honors. • Was one of three players to see action on all 32 games. • Ranked second on the team in assists (81) and third in 3-pointers made (47). • Scored in double-digits eight times with a career-high of 30 in a start vs. UMass (9-of-12 from field, including 7-of-9 from 3-point). High School • Averaged 21.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 7.6 blocks per game as a senior in leading Westinghouse (18-7) to the City League title game as well as a PIAA first round state playoff win. • Finished his career with 1,014 points. • Earned First Team Pennsylvania Sports Writers Class 3A All-State. • Was named Pittsburgh Post-Gazette City League Player of the Year. Was also named to the P-G “Fabulous Five” and cited as a Pittsburgh Tribune-Review “Trib 10” all-star. • Is Duquesne’s first player from Pittsburgh’s City League since Jack Higgins (Schenley) transferred in from Cleveland State. Transferred to Duquesne in June of 2017 after playing in 30 of 32 games as a freshman at Missouri in 2016- 17. Was a consensus 3-star recruit out of high school. Underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee in October of 2019 and will miss the 2019-20 season.

As a Sophomore (2018-19) • Was one of three players to see action on all 32 games. • Led the team with 71 3-point field goals. As a Sophomore (2018-19) • Played in 29 of 32 games with 28 starts. • Was third on the team in scoring (11.2 ppg.) and second rebounding (6.5 rpg.). • His .589 field goal pct., which ranked sixth in the Atlantic 10, was the sixth-best single-season mark in DU history. • Finished second in the A-10 with 2.3 blocks per game. His 2.9 blocks/g. in conference games only led the league. • Ranked 20th nationally in blocks per game (66 in 29g., 2.28 bpg.). • Scored in double digits 17 times. High School • Liberty North High School in Liberty, Mo. (head coach Chris McCabe). • Finished his career with school records for rebounds (979) and blocked shots (349) and field-goal percentage (64.9 percent). The blocks total ranked tenth in Missouri State High School Activities Association history. As a Freshman (2018-19) • Was one of five players to see action in each of DU’s first 19 games (including five starts), before suffering a season-ending left knee injury (ACL) in the first half of the Jan. 23 Saint Louis game. • Underwent successful surgery on Feb. 13. • Shot .538 from the field and .769 (20-of-26) from the foul line. • Came off the bench to score 17 points in 20 minutes in the season-opening win overWilliam & Mary. Went 6-of-7 from the field including 3-of-3 from 3-point vs. the Tribe. Has played in 68 Division I games with 57 starts. Began his career at Des Moines Area Community College and spent one year each at Eastern Michigan and Utah Valley University. Is the fourth graduate transfer in Duquesne basketball history.

As a Redshirt Junior at Utah Valley (2018-19) • Was one of two players to start all 35 games for the 25-10 CBI second round Wolverines. • Averaged 8.5 points and a team-high 7.2 rebounds in 20.1 minutes per game. • Led the team with 122 free throw attempts (92-of-122, .754). • Scored in double digits 13 times with a high of 19 points vs. CSUN. • Posted seven double-doubles: vs. Long Beach (14-10), at Chicago State (14-12), California Baptist (16- 12), at New Mexico State (11-12), UMKC (15-12), at California Baptist (14-10) and CSUN (19-16). As a Sophomore (2018-19) • Played in 31 of 32 games with 30 starts. • Finished tied for second on the team in double-digit scoring games (18) and was second in double-digit rebound games & double-doubles (4 each). • Fourteen of his 18 double-digit scoring games came against Atlantic 10 opponents. • Posted four double-doubles: vs. Maryland Eastern Shore (11-11), at Fordham (16-12), at George Mason (14-11) and vs. Saint Joseph’s at the Atlantic 10 Championship (17-10, including 9-of-12 from the foul line). • Had a career-high three 3-pointers - and a career high-tying 12 boards at Fordham. • Tied his career scoring high with 19 vs. Saint Louis (11-of-13 from the line). • Rejected a career-high four shots vs. VCU and scored 16 at La Salle. • Missed the Nov. 30 Pitt game due to illness. • Went 14-of-34 (.412) from the foul line in his first 12 games, before improving to 61-of-83 (.735) over the final 19 games of the season.

As a Freshman at Miami, Ohio (2016-17) • Was one of four players to see action in all 32 games for the 11-21 Redhawks. Made eight consecutive starts from Jan. 10 through Feb. 4. • Averaged 9.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in shooting 51.3 percent from the field. • Scored in double digits 15 times with a season high of 19 both in his first career start at Ball State on Jan. 10 and again in a start at Central Michi- gan on Jan. 21. • Posted three double-digit rebound games with 12 vs. Grambling, 11 at Ohio and 10 at Kent State. The rebound totals were part of double-doubles vs. Grambling (18-12) and at Kent State (18-10). • Scored 14 points in 26 minutes to help the Redhawks rally from a 15-point deficit with 11:01 left to post a 79-75 win at Akron (and then-coach Keith Dambrot). His layup with 48 seconds left gave Miami a 75-74 lead and his two free throws with 17 seconds left sealed it.

High School • Shawnee Mission North High School in Overland Park, Kan. (head coach Steve Stitzer). • Named first team all-state as senior after helping lead the program to the 2016 Kansas 6A State Championship. Averaged 19 points per game in the three-game run to Shawnee Mission North’s first state title in 63 years. • Finished as program’s second all-time leading scorer (to his twin brother Michael) with 1,150 points and third all-time leading rebounder with 425 boards. • Named first-team All-Sunflower League as senior, averaging 18.5 ppg, 7.0 rpg., and 2.3 bpg. • Was a three-year letterman at small forward.

Keith Dambrot, who built Akron into one of the most successful - and most respected - programs THE KEITH DAMBROT FILE in the Mid-American Conference over 13 sea- sons, was named head men’s basketball coach at PERSONAL Duquesne University on March 28, 2017. Finished his career as the school record holder for hit by pitches (28). • His late uncle, Irwin Dambrot, played for the 1950 City College of New York (CCNY) squad, which is the only school to win both the NCAA Tournament and NIT in the same season. Irwin was the MVP of the NCAA tournament that season and the No. 1 draft pick of the (selected sev- enth overall) that same year. • His father, Sid, was part of Duquesne teams that finished ranked in the Associated Press Top 10 in 1952 (No. 4), 1953 (No. 9) and 1954 (No. 5). The 1954 team, which went 26-3, made it to No. 1 in the AP poll for two weeks in February of 1954. The Dukes played in both the NCAA tournament and NIT in `52 and the NIT in both `53 and `54. • Dambrot and his wife, Donna, have two children, daughter Alysse and son Rob. Alysse earned her undergraduate degree as well as an MBA from Akron. Rob completed his soccer career at Pitt in the fall of 2018. The Raiders posted their first winning season in 18 years during his first year, and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III tournament in 1996-97. In his nine years at the school, the team posted just one sub-.500 season. Weigand rejoined Dambrot on the Akron staff in 2004-05, where he helped the Zips to 10 postseason appearances in 13 years. Weigand earned a bachelor’s degree in hotel and restaurant management from Ashland in 1989 and a master’s degree in sports science from Ashland in 1997. As a player at Tiffin, he recorded a program-best 489 career assists (7.9 apg.). He recorded a then-school record 291 assists (9.1 apg) dur- ing the 1985-86 season. A 1984 graduate of Barberton High School, Weigand helped BHS to a runner-up finish in the 1982 state playoffs. He was inducted into the Barberton High School Hall of Fame in 1997. Weigand and his wife, Jodi, have a daughter, Brittne, and two sons, Trent and Trevor.

He connected on 221-of- 638 3-point attempts (34.6 percent) and had 318 assists to just 178 turnovers. His 318 total assists rank seventh in the Akron record book. McNees was named to the MAC All-Freshman team in 2007-08 and the MAC All-Tournament team as a sophomore. Following his senior season, McNees traveled to Austria to play professionally, before returning to Akron to pursue a career in coaching. McNees is 2006 graduate of Shenango High School in New Castle, Pa., where he played for his father, Bill, who won 312 games in 25 years at SHS. A four-year starter, Steve finished his career tied for 15th in WPIAL history with 2,192 points and with school records for points, assists (824) and steals (233). A member of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette 2006 Fabulous 5, Steve earned a bachelor’s in sports management from Akron in 2010 and completed his master’s in sports administration while concluding his playing career in 2011. He and his wife, Tina, reside in Mars, Pa. with their daughter, Maylee.

Thomas also played in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) for Fort Wayne and Grand Rapids from 1992-99. During his stint in the CBA, he was called up to the NBA five times. Thomas played professionally for teams in France, Sweden, Greece and Italy from 2000-03. Thomas graduated from Lansing (Mich.) Everett High School, where he played basketball, football and baseball. He was named player of the year in the Capitol Conference as a senior in basketball, and he helped the baseball team reach the state semifinals in Class A. Carl teamed with his twin, Charles, to help Eastern Michigan to Mid-American Conference titles and NCAA tournament appearances in 1987- 88 & 1990-91. The ‘91 Hurons advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16. Current DU head coach Keith Dambrot was an assistant for the 1987-88 squad, which was Eastern Michigan’s first men’s basketball team to win a MAC title and earn an NCAA appearance. Carl finished his career with 1,179 points, 452 rebounds, 185 3-point field goals and 249 assists. He was named second team All-MAC in 1991. Thomas was inducted into the Lansing-area Athletic Hall of Fame in June 2005. He and his wife, Gina, have two sons, Austin and Brandon.

A two-time Big East All-Academic Team member, Gibbs earned first team All-Big East and As- sociated Press honorable mention All-American honors as a junior in helping the Panthers to the 2010-11 regular season Big East Conference title. Gibbs, who won a gold medal as a member of the United States’ U19 2009 FIBA World Championships team, also represented Team USA at the 2011 World University Games as an undergrad. After completing his degree in communications in 2012, Gibbs embarked on an international career that included stops in Greece, Spain, Romania, Lebanon, Mexico, Slovenia, Dominican Republic, Belgium and Argentina between 2012 and 2018. Gibbs attended Seton Hall Prep in West Orange, N.J. where he finished as the school’s all-time leading scorer. Ashton’s high school mark was eclipsed in ensuing seasons by his two younger brothers, Sterling and T.J. Sterling went on to play collegiately at Texas, Seton Hall and Con- necticut and is currently competing overseas, while T.J. is a guard at Notre Dame. Gibbs’ father, Temple, played football at Temple University. Ashton, his wife, Autumn, and his children Arielle and A.J., reside in Pittsburgh.

Gavin Block Graduate Assistant First Season at Duquesne Gavin Block, a former two-time Academic All-Mid-American Conference player and two-time team captain at Ohio University, is in his first season as a graduate assistant at Duquesne. The 6-7 swingman, who played in 121 games - with 72 starts - for the Bobcats from 2016-19, finished his career with 847 points, including 141 3-pointers, and 285 assists. He was part 20-win teams as a freshman and sophomore and led Ohio in assists (106) as a junior and 3-point shooting percentage (.354) as a senior. He did not miss a game over his final three seasons. The Lincoln, Ill. native was named third team all-state after leading Lincoln Community to an Il- linois High School Association regional final appearance as a senior. He was a second team all-state pick as a junior after helping the Railsplitters to the Illinois state title game in 2013-14. Block completed his undergraduate degree in specialized studies at Ohio in 2019. He is pursuing a master of science degree in leadership at Duquesne.

Ari Stern Graduate Assistant First Season at Duquesne Ari Stern, a former four-year player at The College of Wooster, comes to Duquesne as a graduate assistant after serving as a player development intern for the Dallas Mavericks in 2018-19. While with the Mavs, Stern collaborated with coaches in helping facilitate practices, individual workouts and game day activities. He also contributed to Dallas’ analytic efforts by assisting with film breakdown. The Phoenix, Ariz. native has also worked extensively at a number of national and international basketball academies, clinics and camps. A team captain at Wooster, Stern was part of teams that compiled a 90-30 record and made four NCAA Division III Championship appearances under head coach Steve Moore, who currently ranks second on the Division III career wins list. A graduate of Sunnyslope High School, Stern was one of ten players named to the statewide All-Academic Boys Basketball Team (Divisions I and II) as a senior. Stern helped the Vikings to the state semifinals twice as they went a combined 57-8 during his junior and senior years. Stern graduated magna cum laude with a degree in psychology from Wooster in 2018. As part of his degree requirement, he studied the effects of mindset on athletic performance and persistence for his senior independent study thesis. He was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa honor society and the NABC Honors Court. He is working toward his master’s in leadership at Duquesne.

Adam Kaplan Director of Student-Athlete Development First Season at Duquesne Adam Kaplan joined the Duquesne University men’s basketball staff in August of 2019 after spending the 2018-19 season working as a player development coach and scout for the professional team Maccabi Haifa in Haifa Israel. Kaplan, a 2015 honors graduate of Suffolk University, played college basketball for three years, including one year at Curry College and two years at Suffolk. As a freshman, Kaplan was named to the Jewish Sports Review DII/DIII preseason All American team. Before his senior season, he suffered a career-ending injury but stayed on with the Rams as an assistant coach under head coach Adam Nelson. As an assistant at Suffolk, Kaplan was in charge of all social media for the team and played a big role in their recruiting efforts. Kaplan spent the 2015-16 season coaching at Wheelock College in Boston, where he assisted with day-to-day operations, player development, recruiting and scouting upcoming op- ponents. He spent the 2017-18 season as a graduate assistant coach at NCAA Division II Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla. Kaplan has also coached for AAU teams in Florida (Miami Tropics) and Massachusetts (ASA HOOPS) as well as working multiple college camps in the USA and internationally.
