Broncos to attend ’s most popular NAIDOC celebration as Deadly Choices ambassadors

Jharal Yow yeh, and Josh Hoffman will join the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health’s (IUIH) Deadly Choices team at Brisbane’s most popular NAIDOC celebration this Friday.

NAIDOC is expected to attract crowds of more than 15,000 people from all across South East and the country and is held at the historically important Musgrave Park.

The Deadly Choices initiative is a preventative program aimed at educating Indigenous people on the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle in all areas of their lives.

Messages around smoking, mental health, diabetes, sexual health and school attendance are delivered by ambassadors and health professionals through the DC brand.

The program is arguably ’s strongest Indigenous created brand. The brand is underpinned by practical and proven social marketing and behaviour change techniques that encourage indigenous people to be healthy role models for family, friends and broader community networks.

Other Deadly Choices ambassadors Broncos , boxing champion Damien ‘Super’ Hooper and Broncos great Steve Renouf are also expected to make an appearance at the tent throughout the day.

Since the development of the Deadly Choices program in 2009 more than 5000 people have walked through the Deadly Choices tents and completed surveys and education sessions with our staff.

The DC tent will also be running competitions throughout the day for those who complete a survey and take part in the education sessions.

If you would like to meet and greet the players we encourage you to arrive prior to 1pm for the chance to get your DC poster signed and have a picture taken.

Media are encouraged to attend the event but are urged to contact our media contact to arrange an appropriate meeting time with ambassadors if required.

You can find the tent at the Russel St end of the park at site 126.
