FRIDAY, 11 DECEMBER 2020 FAR ABOVE A SPEED ACROSS THE CODES: LATE STARTER, SUPA FINISHER SPECIALIST FOR COMPAS Across The Codes is Emma Berry's occasional look at the narrow divide between the Flat and National Hunt. Supasundae (GB) was bred for those high summer days at Epsom, Ascot and Goodwood. By Galileo (Ire) and out of a Danehill half-sister to Group 1 winners Nathaniel (Ire) and Great Heavens (Ire), both of whom are also by Galileo, it was no stretch for his breeder Newsells Park Stud to have Classic aspirations for him when he arrived in this world in January 2010. Plan A didn't quite work out: Supasundae was bought in at 195,000gns when failing to reach his Book 1 reserve at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and, two years later, he was bought for a now scarcely believable ,5,000 at Goffs UK as an unnamed and unraced gelding. • Altior As Brave As He Is Brilliant
THURSDAY, 14 MARCH 2019 QUORTO INJURED, GUINEAS OFF THE TABLE ALTIOR AS BRAVE Group 1 winner Quorto (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) has sustained an AS HE IS BRILLIANT injury in Dubai where he was wintering and will miss the G1 QIPCO 2000 Guineas, Godolphin announced on Wednesday morning. The Godolphin homebred >TDN Rising Star= is undefeated in three starts to date, including the July 14 G2 Superlative S. and the Sept. 16 G1 National S. when last seen. He was one of the leading fancies for the first British Classic of the season, which will take place over Newmarket=s Rowley Mile on May 4. AUnfortunately Quorto has suffered a soft tissue injury in training in Dubai which will mean he will have to miss the 2000 Guineas,@ said trainer Charlie Appleby. "It's a real shame as we had high hopes for him this year. We'll know more when he's scanned for a second time in a couple of weeks. It's too early to say when he could be back in action but we've been here before with these injuries and we'll see how he recovers." Altior & Nico de Boinville | Racing Post by Emma Berry CHELTENHAM, UKCIt takes a great horse to win championship races, but it takes a true champion to fight his way back for glory just as it looks as if he is beaten. At Cheltenham on Wednesday, the remarkable Altior (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}) claimed not just his second G1 Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase but his fourth win at the Festival and his 18th consecutive victory to equal the winning streak of one of the track's great heroes, Big Buck's (Fr) (Cadoudal {Fr}).

2021 CHELTENHAM FESTIVAL PREVIEW A comprehensive preview with expert contributions from: • Steve Lewis Hamilton - Professional backer • Donn McClean - Racing writer and presenter Steve (SLH) assesses the home challenge whilst Donn (DMC) analyses the Irish contingent. Prices shown correct at the time of writing. • Richard Hoiles • John Hunt Top racing commentators provide their on-course insight. • Ten year trends The telling stats from Paul O’Hara • Exclusive horses to follow Direct from a variety of Lambourn trainers The going is expected to be Good to Soft with dry, mild weather over the four days. Tuesday 16th 1.20 Supreme Novices' Hurdle (Grade 1) 4yo+ 2m½f SLH: Metier, Soaring Eagle and at big odds Grumpy Charlie are the pick of the British trained horses. Metier was a decent performer on the flat in Ireland and has progressed from race to race over hurdles since moving to Harry Fry. He is a strong stayer who performs well on soft ground. It is taken as fact that the course will be prepared to ride no firmer than Good to Soft on the opening day. Soaring Glory showed marked improvement when impressively winning the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury. He appears to be less dependent on ground conditions than Metier and looks sure to figure. On soft ground Grumpy Charlie could run better than his odds suggest if allowed to take his chance. Despite not being totally straightforward, he is improving with racing experience. DMC: At the start of the season, it looked like Appreciate It was going to be Willie Mullins’ Ballymore Hurdle horse, and that Ferny Hollow was going to be his Supreme Novices’ Hurdle horse.

Reviewing our last season which incidentally was our second best since we have been here, we narrowly failed to hit the half century winner wise which was slightly annoying but considering last winter was just about the most difficult season to train that I can recall, I really can’t complain. I know we all blame the weather in this country but last season was very frustrating, three times we dug the snow off our hill gallop, all by hand; we have only had to do that once before in all the 11 years I have been here.
