PRECEDENTES Los primeros clubes náuticos de los que se tienen noticias son de la primera parte de la década de los setenta del siglo XIX. Así, no sería aventurado pensar que algunos años antes la afición a la náutica deportiva habría comenzado a florecer en las costas españolas; testimonios de ese tipo encontramos, incluso, en algunas novelas de ambiente marinero de Baroja, donde un nuevo rico regresa al puerto guipuzcoano de donde emigrara de joven y trae consigo un yatch, una pequeña balandra para uso deportivo. También el cántabro Pereda relata en Sotileza, su arquetípica novela de ambiente marinero, la existencia de ligeros esquifes aparejados de balandra y de diferentes tipos de botes a vela, aparejados al tercio, que se utilizaban en Santander a mediados del XIX para realizar navegaciones de ocio por la bahía. Al hablar de la vela de competición, que también da sus primeros pasos a finales del XIX, podemos mencionar La Copuca.

FRANCIS YACHT CLUB TO HOST 2005 INTERNATIONAL 470 CLASS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS Olympic-Class Regatta To Feature World’s Top Sailors In Countdown to Beijing 2008 San Francisco, CA – 198 sailors from 27 countries will gather on San Francisco Bay from August 19th – 28th for the 2005 International 470 Class World Championships hosted by the St. Francis Yacht Club. Racing begins Monday, August 22 and will showcase some of the world’s best male and female small boat sailors including past and present world champions as well as 2004 Olympic Silver Medalists Nick Rogers and Joe Glan (BRITAIN) and Natalia Via-Dufresne and Sandra Azon (SPAIN). The course will be set on San Francisco Bay along the city front from Alcatraz to Crissy Field.     La Coupe Internationale de Printemps Le contexte en 1976 1976 est la première année où le 470 est présent aux Jeux Olympiques, comme dériveur en équipage double « open » (masculins, féminins ou mixtes). Il s’agit des JO de Montréal, dont les épreuves de voile se déroulent à Kingston en Ontario. En 1973, le 470 est vendu à plus de 4000 exemplaires dans le monde à la suite de sa désignation en novembre 1972 comme Classe Olympique par la fédération internationale de voile (IYRU – International Yacht Racing Union, ancêtre de l’actuelle ISAF – International Sailing Federation). C’est dire si, dès l’été 1973 la compétition devient rude tant en France que dans les autres pays pour avoir sa place dans les épreuves à participation restreinte que sont les Championnats du Monde et d’Europe ou les Semaines « Pré-Olympiques » que sont Hyères et Kiel. La 1ère Coupe Internationale de Printemps en 1976 C’est dans ce contexte que l’AS 470 France décide à l’automne 1975 à la demande de ses membres de promouvoir l’organisation d’une nouvelle épreuve, ouverte à tous les équipages, dans un lieu et à des dates proches de la Semaine Olympique d’Hyères. Cette nouvelle épreuve est essentiellement créée pour sélectionner les équipages français au Championnat d’Europe et à la Semaine Olympique d’Hyères, elle-même sélective pour la Semaine de Kiel et pour les JO de 1976. Le succès est immédiat. - 1 - La 1ère Coupe Internationale de Printemps est courue à Bormes-les-Mimosas du 23 au 28 mars et attire 117 bateaux de 14 nations.
