This race will serve as a shakedown for the Formula One United States Grand Prix - West to be held on March 28, 1976 on the same course. There will be two 50-mile heats and a 75-mile final. WHEN: September 28, 1975 WHERE: In the City of Long Beach located 30 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, 20 miles west of Disneyland. Long Beach is one of the world's largest shipping ports. The race will be held on the surface streets of Long Beach, starting and finishing at Ocean Boulevard and Long Beach Boulevard and traversing over a twisting course that will find the fastest speeds attained along Shoreline Drive (the Queen Mary is docked just across the bay from this point.) Total distance is two miles. ORIGINATORS: CHRIS POOK, President, Long Beach Grand Prix Association and Long Beach businessman (Travel Bureau.) DAN GURNEY, Santa Ana, former international driving ace. DON DYER, Long Beach Attorney. PHIL HILL, former Grand Prix driver, will serve as Race Director. DRIVERS: In Formula 5000 Championship competition: Mario Andretti, Brian Redman (last year's champion), David Hobbs, Bobby and Al Unser, Jackie Oliver (1974 CanAm champion), Leila Lombardi, Johnny Rutherford, Tony Adamowicz, Brett Lunger, Eppie Wietzes, Graham McRae, James Hunt, Warwick Brown (1975 Tasman champion), Danny Ongais and many other international drivers. CARS: Open-wheeled, single seat formula racers powered by 305 cubic inch stock block American V-8 engines. PURSE: $100,000 plus contingencies.
