WASHINGTON, D.C., AUGUST 3, 1971 -- U.S. Senators Bob Dole and

James Pearson today announced that 55 Kansas colleges and

universities will receive grants totaling $1,873,888 for work­

study programs to aid 5,843 students in fiscal year 1972.

The grants provide 80 per cent of the salaries paid to

campus connected work. They are from the u.s. Office of Ed-

ucation.

Kansas schools receiving over $100,000 were Fort Hayes

Kansas State College, $165,566 for 513 students; Kansas State

College of Pittsburg, $140,613 for 426 students; Kansas State

University, $208,340 for 650 students; Kansas State Teachers

College (Emporia), $173,890 for 540 students; University of

Kansas, $176,590 for 559 students; and ,

$187,704 for 554 students. Forty-nine other schools in Kansas

received work-study grants. (A list of these is attached).

In addition to the work-study grants, Kansas institutions

participating in the health professions student loan program

and the health professions scholarship program of the National

Institut� of Health will receive $492,072 in grants and loans in

fiscal year 1972. Loans for $168,968 and grants of $86,567 for

medicine to the ; loans of $40,500 and $34,494

in grants for pharmacy to the University of Kansas; and $106,817

in loam� and $54,726 tn grants for veterinary to Kansas State

University.

Kansas schools participating in the nursing student loan

program and the nursing scholarship program of the National

Institutes of Health will receive $463,494 in grants and loans

for fiscal year 1972. (A listing of amounts and schools in the
