2018 PRESIDENT’S PICNIC In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the club I would like to announce the return of the Presidents Picnic. Join your fellow members for a fun-filled day of cruising and BBQ. Hosted by myself and JC and Daryl Lindberg on August 25th, 2018.

We will start our day in the parking lot of the South Side A&W (Gateway & 50th Ave) where you will receive a list of items, locations (4), and your first poker card along with a number of questions you will need to answer along your journey. The poker Run will end at the LINDBERG property in Tofield where we will treat you to a free BBQ. We may have more surprises in store but you’ll just have to wait. The only expense is $5.00 so that we have a poker-pot at the end of the run. If you complete the questions and aquire all the items you will receive a 6th card at the BBQ to “help” your hand.

For members not wanting to join in the Poker Run, We cordially invite you to enjoy the BBQ at 3 p.m. on the LINDBERG property farm on Highway 14. Bring along your collapsable chair and “hopefully” your sun tan lotion…maybe some bug spray and enjoy yourself. Soft drinks, water, hot dogs, hamburgers and salads are all provided.

Directions to the picnic site are as follows: Location is at Daryl and JC Lindberg’s farm 51134-Range Road 203, Sherwood Park Take Exit 66 off of Anthony Henday onto Highway 14 Go UNDER 14/21 overpass Travel 27 Kms EAST till you reach Range Road 203 Turn RIGHT ( south) Travel 1/2 km Farm is on right. Look for signs. If you end up in Tofield you went too far. Go back 13 kms to Range Road 203. This has happened a few times. Daryl and JC would also like to add that if anyone wants to bring out their RV ahead of time and stay the night, they are more than welcome. They have lots of room. Hope to see you there!

VEGREVILLE FATHER’S DAY SHOW & SHINE It’s a short but pleasant drive out to Vegreville and that’s what group of us did to celebrate Father’s Day. The show is held in concert with Demolition races and is a big draw for the area. Vehicles of all types were on display, including heavy trucks, tractors, snowmobiles, and motorcycles. There was even a display of model railroads set up in one of the buildings. The weather was fantastic and, despite some confusion in announcing the awards, the day was quite enjoyable. Members Paul Hyrnew and Jack and Wendy Rac won awards in their respective classes, the Mainstreet Cruisers took home the Club Participation Award. Congrats to all!!

ESRA 34th SUMMER CRUISE The ESRA’s Summer Cruise is one of the Edmonton areas most anticipated events. Held in beautiful , this year’s event was dogged by poor weather in the area that kept many participants from joining in. Still 200+ vehicles turned out to take part. Although the weather threatened on a number of occasions, the rain held off and allowed the crowds to view the vehicles with no serious interruptions.

VINTAGE DAYS AT UKRAINIAN VILLAGE While most folks elected to stay in the city as forecasters predicted rain for the Sunday, a group of hardy Mainstreeters headed out along Highway 16 East to Ukrainian village to help celebrate Vintage Days. The event not only has the car show as a focal point but also includes tours of the buildings and ground, dancing and entertainment, and sales of Ukrainian cultural items and foods. Weather was great and even though we were sheltered in the trees, it was very warm and we met several new friends who joined us in the shade of our tent. The thing about going to some of the shows out of town is the variety of vehicles you see, especially ones that you haven’t seen before. Vintage Days did not disappoint as you can tell by the accompanying pictures. From European cars to farm equipment, classics, and hot rods, all were on display.

PARKSVILLE QUALICUM BEACH 25TH ANNIVERSARY CAR SHOW

The Qualicum Seaside Cruisers Car Show is one of the premiere car shows in western Canada. The Seaside Cruisers run a top notch well organized event with 150 volunteers and the full support of the merchants in Qualicum and Parksville. This year Marlene and I took the 46 Fleetline out to join the fun. The upholstery in the car had just been finished 4 days before we left. The first day of travel was cloudy with spitting rain from Mount Robson to Kamloops but the temps were cool in the mid to high teens. The electric wipers I had installed 3 years ago got a work out. The Datzoffs had decided to take their newly finished 64 Pontiac to the island as well and ended up at the same hotel as ours Wednesday night in Kamloops. Thursday we were out early and ran the Coquihalla in rain. We finally got the ferry and were having a fine supper at my sister’s home in Nanaimo by 7pm. The next morning I spent 3 hours cleaning the car and later that afternoon we went to the staging area for the cruise. Over 300 cars cruised the neighborhoods of Parksville and MAINSTREET CRUISERS JULY 2018 NEWSLETTER www.mainstreetcruisers.ca

Qualicum Beach for over 25 miles. There were many people out along the way giving thumbs up and signs of 9 and 10 ratings for the cars. Saturday morning we staged again for the poker run (20 miles). The best hand was 4 6’s. Prizes were given for the 15 best hands. We won a prize for the worse poker hand of the day. Sunday was up early to stage for the show. Only 600 cars were permitted into the show –all by prior on line registration. We lined the streets of downtown Qualicum for 10-12 blocks. There were so many people you could not see the cars at times. The mainland brought over many high dollar cars and the Island has a strong and vibrant car culture. After the show we had a nice supper out and then went for ice-cream and watch the sun set. Monday it was time to go home. The weather turned super warm with temps in the mid to high 30’s. We took the Fraser Canyon and temps in the car got to `104-`105*F. The temp on the advert sign in Cache Creek read +40*C. The car ran well and temps were up a bit. We made it to the hotel in Kamloops for a cool shower and air-conditioned room.. Several hours later the Datzoffs arrived and we visited down by the river for a couple of hours. Tuesday was cooler and we stopped at Mount Robson for a sandwich and pics of the 46 and the mountain. We got home at 7 pm tired but happy. The car ran great for the whole trip. Next road trip is to Super Run in Red Deer with the 60 Sunliner Convertible. Bob

CANADA DAY STONY PLAIN It has become a tradition for some of us to celebrate Canada Day with the Car show in Stony Plain and this year was no different. Although the forecast was for rain, we took a chance and made the short drive early in the morning. I always like to visit this town as I spent some of my teenage years cruising up and down the streets of Stony on Friday or Saturday nights and have some nostalgic views of the old buildings now decorated with murals. Despite a cold wind blowing from the north, the streets in downtown Stony Plain soon filled with all sorts of vehicles. As with other places out of the city, it is amazing to see cars that just don’t seem to make it into town for one reason or another. There is always something different to see. There is always a good representation of the Mopar marque at this show and some of the vehicles shown here are extremely rare. That is not to ignore the other brands as they are very well represented in the photos below as well. From classic cars looking as though they just came into town for the day to modern muscle super cars, everything you could imagine was on display. As the day drew to a close and awards were presented, Mainstreet members were among the recipients. Dave, Wright, Terry Romanchuk MAINSTREET CRUISERS JULY 2018 NEWSLETTER www.mainstreetcruisers.ca

KMS Up and at ‘em early Saturday morning, a group of us headed to the KMS Show full of anticipation. Once there it was register, get settled, check out the cars, and clean up our cars one last time…or so we thought. The nice morning gave way to a wave of showers that left me with dishpan hands after drying my Nash off repeatedly throughout the day. In between the showers we had a chance to inspect the 200 vehicles that stayed put dispite the rain. There were vehicles from as far away as Red Deer And BC, just checking out the show as well as some very high quality local builds. From exotic Panterras to rat rods, there was a favorite for everyone. KMS really puts on a good show and if you haven’t been to one yet, make certain you go next year. Door prizes are really nice and the food is great and always reasonable. The people at KMS really know how to treat their friends in the automotive marketplace.

MAINSTREET CRUISERS 25TH ANNIVERSARY SHOW & SHINE Our 25th Anniversary Show & Shine was held on July 8th at Town Centre and everyone came away feeling it was a great success. We registered 200 cars and there were many more in the parking lot throughout the day that easily could have joined in. Vendors seemed happy with the turnout as were the people in our merchandise tent who basically sold out of our new t-shirts. Great job! Registration signed up sixteen new members and several renewals. Registration went very quickly, as did the door prizes, and for once we didn’t have any leftovers. The weather held off and the Great Root Bear thrilled the younger crowd with his appearance, giving hugs and posing for pictures. Ed Ferro’s music and giveaways by the folks from Pro Truck Garage kept everyone entertained for the whole day. All in all a great show! Thank you to all who worked so hard to make it a success! TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME!? On July 20th, the Edmonton Prospects are hosting a Trappers Nostalgia event at the ballpark in concert with the baseball game that evening. As part of the festivities and to kick off the K-Days, they are hoping to have 30-50 classic cars show up at REMAX Field prior to our game. There is a nice field just north of the ballpark that would make a great spot to showcase these cars and get people into the summer spirit. To make it worth your while, the Edmonton Prospects would like to offer the following; Two tickets to the Corporate BBQ Zone where you can hang out during the game and enjoy the action along with a meal provided by the Prospects at no cost to you. This of course includes two tickets for admission to the game. It's a great way to spend some quality time with others that are passionate about collector cars. The plan would be to have everyone show up around 4:30 and park their cars in the field north of the stadium so that the fans would come early and spend some time viewing the vehicles and talking to the owners. At 6:45 the car owner’s showcase would end and the owners could come into the stadium to enjoy a meal and the game. Security would be on hand to insure that no one tampers with the vehicles while the owners are away. To facilitate the planning for seating and parking, it is necessary to RSVP no later than Wednesday, July 18th to Patrick Cassidy at [email protected] MAINSTREET CRUISERS JULY 2018 NEWSLETTER www.mainstreetcruisers.ca
