Community Reach North Simcoe has been operating as a charitable organization since 2004 delivering transportation programs to assist people that do not have access to transportation or the financial means to do. so One of our programs is called Transportation Linking Communities - TLC. During 2019 we have given over 4500 rides so people in the North Simcoe area can attend their medical appointments, shopping, and social events. This supports a healthy community both physically and emotionally plus alleviates isolation. Transportation is especially important for seniors who would like to stay in their own homes. Previously, we have used volunteer drivers and their own vehicles plus our two vans, one being totally accessible, to take residents to places around north Simcoe and outside of it to important medical appointments. During Covid 19, due to safety reasons, we have not used our volunteers but depended solely on our two vans with paid drivers. Since the Red Cross, the Cancer Society, and other organizations suspended their transportation programs when the pandemic shut-down occurred in March, we have been taking their clients to medical appointments (cancer and dialysis treatments), and grocery shopping in addition to serving our own clientele. Our TLC accessible van has been used to such an extent that expensive repairs have had to be made. We were getting very busy before Covid19 but now ride requests for the accessible van have increased and with the second wave upon us we need to be prepared for a greater number of ride requests. Community Reach needs a new accessible van for the TLC program to add to our aging fleet and continue to provide this valuable service in North Simcoe. Up to this point Community Reach has received support from each of the towns and townships (Tiny, Tay, , Midland) of $15,000 each. Their logos will be proudly printed on the side of the van along with media attention and presence on our website. Joëlle Roy - The health authorities have allowed us to offer a modified version of Noël au We still have a bit further to go to be able to purchase this van. Due to the supply village. We need to order it as soon as possible. Continued on Page 4 Lafontaine. The Christmas market will feature Phil Robitaille's tourtières and desserts. This year Phil is offering two types of tourtières. The larger nine inch size meat pies sell for $11.00. They are uncooked, and the guaranteed aroma will linger in your home for hours. The smaller pre-cooked meat pie is priced at $4.00. Boxes of assorted desserts are offered in two sizes ($15.00 and $25.00), and the fabulous butter tarts are available for only $2.00 each. To order in advance, call 705 528-9679. You can also order by email at philscatering@hotmail. com. As for the Christmas trees, Tyler Maurice will cut Fraser trees, the favorite variety among the large conifers family. For $30.00, your living room will welcome a proud member of the Huronia forest. Our nursery will be set up near the Community Center where Michel Payment will help you load your tree into your vehicle so you can have yourself a merry little Christmas. For the purchase of local products, there will also be vendors like Windlee Maple Syrup, Bonnie Bee Honey, Festival du Loup Merchandise Booth and Norwex. Our blacksmiths, Treating You Like Family Since 1983 Mikey Bilyk and Thomas Pauzé will also be there with their original fabrications. Since gatherings are deemed a health risk, we will not be singing "O Tannebaum” as we Call for Professional Advice gather around to watch the big Christmas light up. On the other hand, we are preparing a goody bag for the little ones: treats, colouring page, kid’s craft, Advent calendar and other : 705-726-2551 : 705-326-5664 surprises. A Message from Doug Shipley, MP Why can’t I get reliable internet service? That is a key concern that has been expressed by you, your families and your neighbours day after day. While we are now closer to achieving digital equality with our urban neighbors around the province, we have been waiting since March 2019 for action on this announcement. Why is the current Liberal Government not prioritizing the needs of rural Canadians? Why did it take so long to open applications for these funds? I will continue asking these questions until we get answers. In the coming weeks I will be meeting virtually with representatives of various internet service providers and learning about any planned service expansions in our area in the next 6-12 months. Two Dwyer sisters visiting Glenn Beer told him the barn had been relocated in the 1930s. Forty people helped to move the barn after seeding and before haying. The roof was covered with 2 x 2’ interlocking pedlar metal shingles. A Mennonite looking at the barn indicated it was the oldest lumber he had ever seen. The siding at the top of the barn is 1 ¼” thick while further down where it is weathered it is only ¼ ” thick. Glenn kept the upper part of the old siding when he added new pine siding. An original 1871 barn board can be seen under the ladder. Glenn renovated in 2007 and converted the barn to a horse barn. A gangway and lean-to were removed. The mow boards were removed and the ceiling heightened. The mow floor was replaced with fourteen hundred 2 x 4” lumber boards set on their edge. Two triangular wind braces were added to each beam and attached with 120 nails. Glenn Beer, A History of Vespra p. 554.

My View – Bill French COVID-19 I am intrigued when everyone emphasizes using science as we fight this Pandemic. Unfortunately for the most part the science argument is used to support the view of the day based on political positions. The panacea of the cure all vaccine actually frightens me more. Vaccines typically take about 10 years to scientifically prove their efficacy and side effects. But it appears many are ready to be first in line when it is released in early 2021. I hope the lines are long as I will keep moving to the end of the line for my shot, as something tells me that 10 years from now we will have front page news on the horrors of this rushed remedy. I believe it makes more sense to find treatment for the infected to minimize the health impacts and not just focus on a cure all vaccine, as there really is no such thing. Most people don’t realize that the Spanish Flu ran is full natural course and the only focus was prevention such as hygiene, disinfectants and improved sanitary conditions. It was not until 1942 that there was ever any type of vaccines for the flu and of course every year we seem to get it wrong and I question whether it reduces rather than improves our natural immune system. But if you watch the media, the large pharmaceutical companies and their high paid henchmen with Installed multiple degrees behind their name will tell you differently. Like the Spanish Flu, it will take herd immunity and the human bodies natural ability to develop immunities to this current COVID-19. And yes, many will still die! I think we all need to get past the “I am God” syndrome and realize nature takes its course. Legion wants automatic entitlement for Veterans In the meantime let’s focus on wearing masks, physical distancing and personal The Royal Canadian Legion is asking the federal government to grant Veterans automatic hygiene as over a 100 years ago that was the solution that ended the pandemic over entitlement to disability benefits.
