Office 365 now Free for eligible NHCC students! Office 365 Education for Students is an Office 365 plan that is available for free to students who attend academic institutions that have purchased Office for faculty and staff. This plan allows students to install Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Publisher, and Access on up to 5 PCs or Macs and Office apps on other mobile devices including Windows tablets and iPads®. The plan also includes 1TB of OneDrive storage, managed by the school, and students can edit and collaborate using Office Online tools. Thus, all currently active (enrolled in Fall 2014 or Spring 2015) full-time or part-time North Hennepin Community College students are eligible and can get the Office 365 directly from Microsoft. To begin accessing Office 365 there is a one-time verification and authentication process to be completed. Please follow the steps listed below to assure successful verification, authentication, and access to Office 365. Step 1 Go to the www.office.com/getoffice365. You will be directed to the Office 365 Office in Education page to verify your eligibility. Read more here on eligibility (page 5) Click on the link called “Find out if you’re eligible” to confirm your eligibility Step 2 You will be directed to the Office for Education “Get Started” page. Enter your email in the following format [email protected] to verify your eligibility. Note: It is your StarID followed by @ sign and my.nhcc.edu (for example: [email protected]). Click on Sign up link. If verification process has identified you as eligible NHCC student you will get a screen with the message as illustrated below “You already have an account”. Step 3 Click on Continue link Step 4 To authenticate that you are the actual student whose eligibility was just verified, you will be prompted to log into your NHCC student email account. Use your StarID and password to log in. Click on Sign in link to complete sign in. Step 5 Once authenticated you will be directed back to Office 365 Education page to acknowledge authentication being successful. Click on Start link to continue. Finalizing setup. It can take up to a minute to connect you to the portal You have reached the portal https://portal.office.com/Home where you can access Office Online tools such as student email, OneDrive or create a Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint documents. You can also now install Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and OneNote and other applications (view full list of applications) to up to 5 different devices. You can install and manage your software after you have initially verified and authenticated your Office 365 by login into your NHCC student account (www.outlook.com/my.nhcc.edu). At the top right of the page click Settings, then choose Office 365 settings from the dropdown menu. Under Settings click on Software link to access install and manage page. Schools qualify for this benefit when they have licensed Office institution-wide for their faculty and staff through Microsoft’s Volume Licensing program and are enrolled to allow students to sign-up directly with Microsoft. Active full- or part-time students at qualifying schools are eligible if they: Have a school-specific email address provided by the school (for example, contoso.edu) that can receive external email Are of legal age to sign up for an online offer individually (13 years old) Have Internet access How long can I use this plan for? If you are eligible, you can use the plan until you graduate or are no longer enrolled at a qualified school. Student eligibility may be re-verified at any time. At expiration, the Office applications enter a reduced- functionality mode, which means documents can be viewed but it isn’t possible to edit or create new documents. In addition, online services associated with the school email address, for example Office Online and OneDrive, will no longer work. What happens when I graduate? When you graduate, your Office 365 subscription through your institution ends upon graduation. You may enroll into other consumer or commercial offers available. If you have Office 365 Education at your school, you should make sure to transfer all your files from your school OneDrive to your personal OneDrive prior to graduation. Who manages the OneDrive account provided with this offer? This account is associated with the school and should be used for school-appropriate content, such as homework and schoolwork. Permissions and access can be changed by the school’s IT administrator at any time. Can I share the plan with others? Office 365 Education for Students is licensed for use only by the eligible student at a qualifying school. Can students install Office for iPad through Student Advantage Office 365? Yes, this would count towards the limit of installing it on 5 tablets. If I recently purchased Office and will now also be eligible for Student Advantage though my school, will I receive any credit and/or compensation? No. The Office purchased is a consumer offering and students can continue to take advantage of the purchased offer. If I have already installed Office 365 University on my computer, what will happen if I attempt to install Office 365 through Student Advantage? The office client supports having both an Office 365 personal account (used when you signed up for Office 365 University) and a school account (login provided by your school), students will be able to remain signed in with both.
