Lions kick off Double trouble season with win over Walhalla

BY MICHAEL CROUCHLEY THE JOURNAL

WALHALLA — The Daniel High School girls’ soccer team started its season in emphatic fashion on Tuesday with a big win at Walhalla. The Lions kept the pressure on the Ra- zorbacks’ goal all night, leaving with an 11-1 win to show for their efforts. “It’s a great way to start the season,” Daniel head coach Chad Perry said. “We did what we needed to do. We knew we needed to come out here and be aggressive, go after the ball and give our- selves opportunities. We did that, and luckily tonight, we put a couple in the net.” From kickoff, Daniel (1-0) Watrous looked dangerous on the attack. The Lions maintained possession and got crosses into the box, and it took only a little more than two minutes for them to find the break- through as Lauren Watrous scored a goal assisted by fellow senior Reece Murphree — her first of four assists on the night. Walhalla (0-1) answered with a goal from Ella Burrell on the counterattack, but it was all Daniel from there.
