Final Release | 2020-21 Women's Basketball • 7 Pack to Pack! NC State Women Again Wear ACC Tourney Crown

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State claimed its second consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament champi- onship on Sunday, turning back Louisville in a dramatic title game that lived up to its billing.

The second-seeded Wolfpack prevailed 58-56 in what will be remembered as one of the tournament’s more fantastic finishes. Raina Perez’s 17-foot jumper with 2.1 seconds remaining snapped a tie score, and ACC Player of the Year Dana Evans missed a 3-point try at the buzzer that would have won it for the top-seeded Cardinals.

NC State (20-2) earned the conference’s automatic NCAA Tournament qualifying spot while securing back-to-back ACC Tournament championships for the first time in program history. Prior to winning each of the last two years under head coach Wes Moore, the Wolfpack’s previous tourney titles came in 1980, 1985, 1987 and 1991 under the legendary Kay Yow.

Wolfpack junior center Elissa Cunane, who averaged 23.3 points and nine rebounds in three games here this weekend, was named the ACC Tourna- ment’s Most Valuable Player.

With the score tied at 56-all and 26 seconds remaining, it was Cunane who snared the on a missed jumper by Evans. Moore opted not to call timeout, and NC State played on.

The Wolfpack looked inside for Cunane first, but a reset pushed the ball back out to Perez at the top of the key. The 5-4 point guard penetrated slightly while dribbling to her left, then pulled up and swished through the tie-breaking jumper.

After Louisville took a timeout, Kianna Smith initially looked inside, where her inbounds pass was knocked out of bounds beneath the Cardinals’ basket. The clock still showed 1.3 seconds.

On the second try, Smith found Evans on the right wing, but the Louisville senior’s shot bounced off the rim as the buzzer sounded to set off NC State’s celebration.

Though Louisville came up short to the nationally third-ranked Wolfpack for the second time this season, the fifth-ranked Cardinals (23-3) are assured of a high seed when the bracket is unveiled next week for the 2021 NCAA Women’s Championship.

Cunane wound up the only NC State player scoring in double figures for NC State, but the Wolfpack got contributions from numerous others as it wiped out a 48-40 Louisville lead in the final nine minutes.

Kayla Jones, who pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, brought State to within 54-53 on a rebound follow with 3:52 to play. Kai Crutchfield stood out defensively and contributed a key 3-pointer to the Wolfpack’s decisive run.

Evans led the Cardinals with 15 points, and Smith added 13.

8 • 2020-21 Women's Basketball | Final Release Final Release | 2020-21 Women's Basketball • 9 ACC Holds Suit Drive at Women’s, Men’s Basketball Tournaments

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - The Atlantic Coast Conference’s Committee for Racial and Social Justice, in conjunction with its member institutions, held a suit and business clothing drive during the women’s and men’s basketball tournaments.

The suit drive will benefit the United Way of Greater Greensboro’s Family Success Center. The donated items will be used to provide recipients with the appropriate attire for job interviews and newly secured employment.

“We are incredibly proud to continue our partnership with the United Way of Greater Greensboro to bring lasting change in our community,” said ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips. “The importance of community should never be overlooked, and through this year’s suit drive we can positively impact a number of lives in the greater Greensboro area.”

“The Atlantic Coast Conference has shown their commitment to the local community for many years,” said Carl Jones, senior manager of devel- opment at the United Way of Greater Greensboro. “This suit drive is yet another example of the ACC truly making an impact and United Way of Greater Greensboro is grateful for their long-lasting support."

Coaches and staff members from each team are asked to contribute a suit or business attire to benefit the United Way. Additionally, each donor was encouraged to include a short note of encouragement that could be included with the donated clothing item.

"Community partnerships are critical to the work being done at the Family Success Centers,” added Crystal Broadnax, Family Success Center Program Manager. “Our members are working hard to meet their goals and for those seeking employment, these suits may be the extra boost they need. We are extremely excited about this opportunity and we thank the ACC for giving back in such an impactful way!"

ACC basketball coaches have dressed casually throughout the season, with most electing to wear school-branded polos and pullovers instead of suits. Subsequently, the ACC’s CORE developed the initiative to donate a suit or business attire that coaches and staff have not used this season to benefit United Way of Greensboro’s Family Success Center.

“Thank you to the ACC for helping Family Success Center members dress for success,” Jaye Webb, the program director for the Family Success Center, said. “For many, this will be the first step to successful interviews and job acquisitions. More than fashion, a good suit can be the key to unlock the confidence needed to accomplish goals and reach dreams. We are grateful for the opportunities this presents our members.”

The ACC’s partnership with the United Way dates back more than 20 years with the conference continuing its efforts to make a difference in the Greensboro community. There is always a need, but the COVID-19 pandemic has magnified that need.

It marks the second consecutive year that the 10th pick in the draft has come from an ACC program. Last year, Virginia’s Jocelyn Willoughby was selected with the pick as the first ACC player off the board.

Two-time ACC Player of the Year Dana Evans of Louisville was the first player drafted in the second round with the 13th overall pick by the .
