OUR OPINION Real estate success signals other needs Once again our red-hot real estate market is defining us and this is a good thing. A tight housing market is not a bad thing to experience. Anyone who puts a house on the market sells it quickly. Anyone looking to buy anoth- er home has the opportunity to acquire historically low finance rates and upgrade to the home of their dreams. There are also options to downsize into more efficient homes that fit smaller lifestyles and desires. If it’s a new or custom home you’re interested in, local builders in Columbia County also are busy, swamped with work in most cases, filling subdivisions and vacant parcels with new homes and dream developments. There is no reason not to be excited about Columbia County’s present and future. People want to leave other places and move here and there are a multitude of rea- sons why. We have open spaces, a good quality of life, access to everything important and what we can’t pro- vide here, we have an excellent transportation corridor that leads to better options of everything else. Low taxes, low cost of living and low crime are three pretty important things to most people, as well. We have our challenges, but we also have a lot going for us, too. We should remember this the next time we start to make out a guest list for a pity party. Shred it and move on. It could be a lot worse. In fact, we should be crowing about our high level of quality of life we have here. Sometimes we’re our own worst enemy in Lake City and Columbia County, our own downers. It’s obvi- A.K. COLUMBIA 28, SEABREEZE 14 BACK OUT TO SEA Tigers eliminate Sandcrabs in 1-6A quarterfinals behind ground-and-pound attack & timely defense

By JORDAN KROEGER [email protected]

Jaelin Brown pounded the rock in the first half. Tony Fulton finished Seabreeze in the second. Oh, and the defense stood tall again to send Columbia back to the regional semifinals for the third straight year. Brown rushed for 101 yards in the first half and Fulton tallied 61 and two touchdowns to lead the Tigers past the Sandcrabs 28-14 in the Region 1-6A quarterfinals Friday night at Tiger Stadium. Amare Ferrell and Dante Brown both had interceptions for the defense, with Brown’s coming up big with Columbia clinging to a 7-point lead with four min- utes left. That pick set up Fulton’s final touchdown, a 1-yard plunge two plays after Kade Jackson hit receiver Jaquez Redic with a 40-yard pass on a 3rd-and-22. It put Seabreeze away, gave Columbia its fourth straight win and set up a date at home next Friday against Daytona Beach Mainland — a 49-28 winner over Matanzas. “It was crunch time and we needed it,” Dante Brown said. “I’m not ready to go home. I’m ready to eat with these boys on Thanksgiving and play again.” Brown’s interception came right after Zach Williams missed a 39-yard field goal that could’ve iced the game for the Tigers (4-5). It capped another impressive night for the defense, which hadn’t surrendered an offensive BRENT KUYKENDALL/Lake City Reporter Columbia running back Tony Fulton escapes a tackle against Seabreeze during Friday’s Region 1-6A quarterfinal.
