Temple Square Performances for March 2019

A variety of concerts and performances on will take place during the month of March. Unless otherwise noted below, concerts are free and no tickets are required. All are open to the public.

Friday, March 8 – BYU Winterfest: Noteworthy With nine talented women, BYU Noteworthy presents a cappella music with perfect harmony, fun stage presence, and a unique musical arrangement from pop to spiritual. This performance will take place at 7:00 p.m. in the Conference Center Theater. Tickets are $12 and can be obtained online at www.LDS.org/Events or by calling 801-570-0080.

Friday, March 15 – UMTA Concerto Honors Recital Each year the Utah Music Teachers Association (UMTA) holds a concerto competition for the youth in Utah and the winners have been invited to perform in this Honors Recital. The program features performances by first-place winners of the competition, including music students from elementary school through college. This performance will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Assembly Hall.

Saturday, March 16 – The Uinta Trio The Uinta Trio—Michael McQuay, Monte Belknap, and Nicole Pinnell—will perform works by Dvorak and Schubert during this inaugural concert season. Michael is professor of piano at Brigham Young University–Idaho, Monte is professor of violin at Brigham Young University, and Nicole is a - based billboard charting recording artist. The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Assembly Hall.

Friday, March 22 – University of Utah, “Light Eternal” The University of Utah School of Music Choral Area presents, "Light Eternal." Conducted by Dr. Barlow Bradford, a 320-voiced choral union comprised of the University of Utah Chamber and A Cappella Choirs, in addition to singers from Pine View, Juab, Maple Mountain, Springville, American Heritage, Westlake, Alta and Syracuse high schools will perform Morten Lauridsen's, "Lux Aeterna," a sacred choral work accompanied by symphony orchestra. This performance will take place from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Tabernacle.

Saturday, March 23 – “Anthem: A Night of Music and Devotion” Anthem is an interactive concert that features local artists singing faith-based music and presenting a message of hope, love, and divine worth. This evening is presented by 90&9, a nonprofit that promotes healthy living through the arts, and will be hosted by an L.A. recording artist and circus performer. The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Conference Center Theater. Free tickets are required and can be obtained online at www.LDS.org/Events or by calling 801-570-0080.

Friday and Saturday, March 29, 30 – The Orchestra at Temple Square and Temple Square Chorale 2019 Spring Concert Entitled "An Evening of Britten and Bernstein," the concert will feature "The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra" and "Te Deum in C," both by Benjamin Britten, followed by "Chichester Psalms" by Leonard Bernstein. The evening’s performances will be under the baton of Ryan Murphy, associate music director of The at Temple Square and conductor of the Temple Square Chorale. This event will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Tabernacle both nights. The concert is free, but tickets are required. Tickets can be obtained online at www.LDS.org/Events or by calling 801-570-0080.

Ongoing Events In addition, 30-minute organ recitals by Tabernacle organists and guest organists are held in the Tabernacle weekdays and Saturdays at 12:00 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m.

Also, The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square rehearsals are open to the public in the Tabernacle on Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m., as is “Music and the Spoken Word” featuring The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square on Sundays in the Tabernacle. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. and those attending are asked to be in their seats by 9:15 a.m. Doors close at 9:27 a.m. for the 9:30 a.m., 30-minute broadcast.
