Barbara Campbell is Missouri’s Project 535 Coordinator

CWA of Missouri is pleased to announce that Barbara Campbell is the Project 535 Coordinator for Missouri. CWA’s national office takes the lead in monitoringfederal issues, but the home constituents are important in persuading a senator or representative in his or her district office to vote favorably. CWA founded the 535 Program to provide a base of informed citizens to alert members of Congress to their constituents’ views.

The 535 Program derives its name from the 535 members of the U.S. Congress – 100 in the Senate and 435 in the House of Representatives. The 535 Program’s goal is to have trained CWA members represent CWA’s views to Congress, both in Washington, D.C. and in the home districts of each member of Congress. The 535 Participants have special opportunities to influence legislation that comes before the U.S. Congress. Once a month, citizen lobbyists visit Congress on a specific issue. These volunteer CWA lobbyists visit with the Members of Congress who are in position to move forward or to stop the bill whichever action CWA needs on that particular issue. Then each member of the Senate and the House of Representatives receives a packet from CWA. National then sends the results of the day’s activities and the action items to Barbara Campbell who will then send the action items to CWA members enlisted in each Congressional District to participate in Project 535. The member of Congress can then receive phone calls from ten to twenty of his constituents on the issue on which he had received information the week prior. The member of Congress then takes note of CWA and the influence we have at the local level. It only takes 30 minutes once a month to be a 535 participant. Won’t you call 636-536-6506 today, and tell Barbara Campbell that you will be a 535 participant in your area? A primer on Primary Elections by Bev Ehlen

It is impossible to rightly govern the world best represents him and his party in November. There without God and the Bible.” usually isn’t much information as far as endorsements George Washington or surveys in the August elections, especially at the county level. To get the necessary information to make a decision about a candidate for whom I have no information, I have called individual local candidates before an election and asked a few questions. I introduce myself and then tell the candidate that I needed to know a couple of things before I could vote. I first ask where the candidate stands on a woman’s right to choose. I ask it that way so I can get a real honest assessment on that candidate’s understanding of the sanctity of life. I then ask why he/she is running for office. I may then ask something of local importance or what his/her solutions to a local need are - raising taxes or finding the money in the established budget? After just a few minutes on the phone with a candidate, one can usually get a pretty good idea if that individual makes his/her decision from a Biblical or firm foundation or from a humanistic approach to life’s decisions.

CWA of Missouri announces Diana Kaufman as Letter to the Editor Coordinator

A really good way to make known the thoughts of CWA of MO members on current issues is by writing letters to the editor. To help that happen, CWA of MO is excited to introduce you to Diana Kaufman, our Letter to the Editor Coordinator. Under Diana Kaufman’s leadership, we hope this effort will be a way for the Biblical view on current issues to be given a voice in the community. The plan is that when an event or statement regarding one of our core issues has made the news, a letter to the editor is drafted along with talking points and e-mailed to the Letter to the Editor (LTE) participants all over our state. The LTE participant will take the letter and edit it to make it more personal, send it as is or take the bullet points to create a letter herself/himself. This letter is then e-mailed to the local newspaper(s) and copied to Diana. It has been our experience that local newspapers publish the letters sent in by the locals. The editors of smaller newspapers don’t receive that many letters so there is usually room to print yours. This can be an effective and inexpensive way to get God’s principles out there for the readers to consider. Please contact our office today and sign up to help with the Letter to the Editor project. You can call our office at 636-536-6506 or e-mail at [email protected].
