Golden Hawk Coaching Staff

Gary Jeffries: Head Coach This is Gary's fifth season of coaching women's at WLU . He took over the fairly unsuccessful program in 1984 and turned it around to be recognized as a highly respected force to contend with in the O.W.LA.A. Records have been set over the past few seasons with the teams increasing success rate and this season is expected to be even better. Players that were in the early stages of the program are now in their senior years creating a predominently experienced team with a lot of promise. Gary's background in athletics is impressive and diverse, playing varsity football and hoc key at the University of Guelph, varsity football at WLU and four years as a shortstop and second baseman with the organization. In 1972, he was drafted by the , and in 1973 he was signed by the Hamilton Tiger Cats, before becoming the rec reational co-ordinator at WLU . Gary is presently the defensive co-ordinator of the WLU Golden Hawks football team, which he has been coaching for 15 years. He has also coached senior forthe Waterloo Tigers and Kitchener Panthers for seven seasons. Gary feels this year is very promising for women's basketball at WLU and is optimistic about the 1988-89 season.

Brian Mallot: Assistant Coach Brian is a Kitchener native who attended St. Jerome's High School where he was an accom plished athlete in both basketball and football. He came to Laurier in 1979 and was very busy as a student athlete and head resident. His football career included three years at Laurier, one year at Windsor and a tryout with the Calgary Stampeders. Brian is also entering his fifth year as an assistant coach with the football team. Currently, Brian resides in the Forest Height's area and teaches elementary school in Cam bridge. Brian's confident, easy going manner should have a positive influence on our Lady Hawks.

AVIA has been the proud sponsor of the Lady Hawks since 1986. Kim Fritzley Catherine Foulon Coleen Ryan Sue Little Returning Players Kris Peel 5'4" Guard A fourth year player from Chatham, was the team's leading scorer averaging 10.6 points per game in 35 games last season. She also averaged 3 assists per game and 1.8 rebounds per game. Kris has exceptional speed and is one of the quickest point guards in the O.W.LA.A. west division. Kim Fritzley 5'4" Guard A fourth year player from Goderich, Ontario. Kim was a positive force for the Hawks last season, especially in the playoffs with her exceptional outside shot. She has good qUickness and is expected to be a big contributor this year. Catherine Foulon 6'1" Centre A fourth year player from Wallaceburg, Ontario. As a league all-star, "stick" averaged 9.5 points per game in 34 games. This talented player also averaged 6 rebounds per game and should be a strong Hawk force this season. Coleen Ryan 6' Forward A third year player from Sarnia's St. Pats'. Coleen's strengths include her outside shsooting ability and rebounding ability. These abilities afforded her the opportunity to tour Europe this summer with a Canadian All-Star team. Sue Little 6' Forward A third year player from Ingersoll, Ontario. Sue is a great inside player averaging 10.5 points per game in 35 games and she also was the teams leading rebounder last season with 7.2 rebounds per game. Sue was a provincial team player and will no doubt be a strong team force this season. Kelly Lynch 6' Centre A third year player from Sudbury, Ontario. As a good inside player, Kelly averaged 5.0 points per game and 3.0 rebounds per game in 35 games. She is an effective player especially when playing an aggressive game and is a strong and positive force for the team. Renata Dykstra 5'9" Forward A third year player from Dunnville, Ontario. Renata is a fine outside shooter averaging 5.3 points per game and 3.0 re bounds per game in 31 games. She is a major team contributor and could see action from the guard spot this season. Lorraine Masterson 5'7" Guard A third year player from Peterborough, Ontario. Lorraine is a quick defensive player and has worked hard at her offensive skills and will be a positive team force. Robin Potter, Forward A second year player from London Oakridge. She is a good inside player with the ability to score from the outside as well. With the aid of a weight-training program she'll make a positive addition to the team. Dayna Perry 5'5" Guard A second year player from Kingston Frontenac. She is a player with outstanding quickness and great defensive skills. We should see Dayna take a stronger role as point guard increasing her court time as her offensive play improves.
