TO: NZRL Staff, Districts and Affiliates and Board FROM: Cushla Dawson DATE: 28 October 2008 RE: Media Summary Wednesday 29 October to Monday 03 November 2008 Slater takes place among the greats: AUSTRALIA 52 ENGLAND 4. Billy Slater last night elevated himself into the pantheon of great Australian fullbacks with a blistering attacking performance that left his coach and Kangaroos legend Ricky Stuart grasping for adjectives. Along with Storm teammate and fellow three-try hero Greg Inglis, Slater turned on a once-in-a-season performance to shred England to pieces and leave any challenge to Australia's superiority in tatters. It also came just six days after the birth of his first child, a baby girl named Tyla Rose. Kiwis angry at grapple tackle: The Kiwis are fuming a dangerous grapple tackle on wing Sam Perrett went unpunished in last night's World Cup rugby league match but say they won't take the issue further. Wing Sam Perrett was left lying motionless after the second tackle of the match at Skilled Park, thanks to giant Papua New Guinea prop Makali Aizue. Replays clearly showed Aizue, the Kumuls' cult hero who plays for English club Hull KR, wrapping his arm around Perrett's neck and twisting it. Kiwis flog Kumuls: New Zealand 48 Papua New Guinea NG 6. A possible hamstring injury to Kiwis dynamo Benji Marshall threatened to overshadow his side's big win over Papua New Guinea at Skilled Park last night. Arguably the last superstar left in Stephen Kearney's squad, in the absence of show-stoppers like Roy Asotasi, Frank Pritchard and Sonny Bill Williams, Marshall is widely considered the Kiwis' great white hope.

TO: NZRL Staff, Districts and Affiliates and Board FROM: Cushla Dawson DATE: 25 November 2008 RE: Media Summary Saturday 15 November to Tuesday 25 November 2008 Kiwis are content to polish the silverware: KEEP your opinions to yourselves and we will keep the World Cup. The message from across the ditch was yesterday loud and clear following revelations Ricky Stuart will be investigated for verbally abusing referee Ashley Klein the morning after the Kangaroos' disastrous defeat. New Zealand Rugby League general manager Peter Cordtz said New Zealanders were too busy enjoying the historic victory and the prestigious silverware to worry about the controversy whipped up in Australia or Stuart's opinions. Stuart to be investigated over abuse claims: Australian coach Ricky Stuart will be formally investigated following a complaint he abused World Cup referee Ashley Klein and a top England official after Saturday night's shock World Cup final loss to New Zealand. Rugby League International Federation chairman Colin Love confirmed the RLIF would follow-up on a complaint from England's director of referees Stuart Cummings that he and Klein were abused by Stuart in the foyer of the team's Brisbane hotel the morning after the Kiwis downed the Kangaroos 34-20. The real loss for Rugby League: I'll declare from the outset that I'm from an AFL state, Victoria. ....and while we support Melbourne Storm to the hilt, the focus here is very much on the AFL. It borders on being an obsession. But you don't have to have too much of the Rugby League smarts about you to know a bunch of sore losers when you see them.

  • How Much Is Greg Inglis Really Worth? $3.9 Million According to the Stock Market
16 November 2010; for immediate release. How much is Greg Inglis really worth? $3.9 million according to the stock market. On the weekend of November 6th rugby league headlines swirled as details emerged of Greg Inglis’s probable deal with the South Sydney Rabbitohs, and the crumbling of his informal agreement with the Brisbane Broncos. On November 11th, the Brisbane Broncos share price fell from 30 cents to 26 cents, reducing the Club’s market capitalisation by $3.9 million – significantly more than Inglis’s reportedly $1.2 million two year deal. Prior to the news of Inglis’ defection, the market capitalisation of Brisbane Broncos Limited was $29.5 million. This is backed by $11.5 million of tangible assets according to the most recent financial statements. This implies that $18 million is represented by intangible assets. The chart shows how the loss of Greg Inglis’ signature ‐ a key intangible asset ‐ reduced the market capitalisation. (It’s hard to describe a 110kg athlete as ‘intangible’ – the term refers to the player’s contract.)
