The #17-ranked Spartans (2-4) were edged by unranked Redlands, 11-10, and lost to #12-ranked UC Davis, 2016 GCC PLAYER OF THE WEEK 9-5. San Jose State finished 1-3 in the tournament. The 18th-ranked Spartans’ win was a 12-10 overtime victory against #16-ranked Cal Baptist. The Spartans will take on fifth-ranked Stanford to open the MPSF Sept. 7 Ikko Saito Invitational on Friday. They are in Group D with Pacific and Air Force. Pacific UC IRVINE Sept. 14 Matej Matijevic UC Irvine Sophomore Jack Trush scored three goals each in eighth-ranked UC Irvine’s two wins last week as the Anteaters defeated Concordia, 13-3, and Loyola Marymount, 9-7. In the victory over Concordia, Trush scored Sept. 21 Alen Osmanovic back-to-back goals to open the second quarter to extend UCI’s lead to 5-0 and he added one in the third Pacific period to put UCI up 9-3. Against LMU on the road Saturday, his first goal of the game tied the score at 1-1 in the first quarter, his second score gave UCI a 5-3 lead in the third and his final tally of the day came during a stretch of four straight goals in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Trush leads UCI with 19 goals on the season. Other Notes……. Junior goalie Matej Matijevic continued his stellar play, recording 11 saves in 3 ½ quarters of Thursday’s win over Concordia and he had 15 stops in Saturday’s victory over LMU. He has 98 saves for the season…freshman Bryant Joudrie, who had a pair of goals in the win over LMU, is second on the team in scoring with eight goals while junior Ryan Warde follows with seven. UCI hosts California Baptist Wednesday night before competing in the Mountain Pacific Invitational at Berkeley this weekend, opening against Pepperdine Friday at 2:25 p.m. at Northgate High School.

UC SANTA BARBARA Reed Cotterill led UCSB to a victory over No. 13 UC San Diego with three goals and one assist. He also had a team-high three steals against the Tritons. Cotterill delivered a key goal in the second quarter for the Gauchos with a goal that ended a UCSD run that gave the Tritons the lead. After delivering the equalizer, UCSB kept the score tied going into halftime. With the score still tied in the fourth, Cotterill gave UCSB the lead with his third goal, which sparked a 4-1 Gaucho run to seal the victory. The sixth-ranked Gauchos are in Group C of the MPSF Invitational, taking on 11th-ranked Princeton to open the tournament. The other match-up is host Cal taking on Whittier.
