Built in 1840’s, the Halliday Cary Pick House is one of the oldest remaining homes in the City of Auburn and is located at 360 North College Street. The Greek Revival-style raised cottage, was erected on a tract of land bought from a member of the Creek Nation in 1839, and is constructed of handmade brick and hand-hewn virgin heart pine.

Dr. Charles Allen Cary, founding Dean of Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine purchased the house in 1897 and members of the Cary family lived in the house until 2006. In addition to being a family home, the house was used as a hospital by Confederate troops during the Civil War and, later, the attic was converted to a dormitory for Dr. Cary’s veterinary medicine students.

Because of its structural integrity, the Halliday Cary Pick house was selected by the Advisory Committee of the Historic American Building Survey as possessing exceptional historic or architectural interest and being worthy of most careful preservation for the benefit of the future generations.
