IIT Indore was mentored by IIT Bombay till its founding Director Prof. Pradeep Mathur took charge on January 1, 2010. From the Academic Year 2010-11 onwards, it developed its own curriculum for its different UG and PG programs. IIT Indore aims to play an active role in the task of propelling India on its growth-trajectory by focusing on very high-quality education, research, development, consultancy, and manpower training. In the India Ranking-2019 released by National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2019 of MHRD, IIT Indore has been ranked 13th amongst all engineering institutions. Institute has also the distinction of being graded very impressive 5th rank in the Teaching, Learning and Resources parameters in this category consecutively for the year 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 among new IITs in research quality. Indore City: Indore is the commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh with many industries in the area of automobiles, ancillary units for automobile industries, mechanical engineering, electronics, information technology, pharmacy, garments, and snacks manufacturing. It is an educational hub and has institutes of international repute such as IIM Indore, Raja Ramanna Center for Advanced Technology (RRCAT), UGC-DAE Consortium for Scientific Research, etc. Indore has a young and vibrant students' population. The city is well connected by road, rail, and air and is strategically located in close proximity to Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. In Swachh Survekshan 2017, 2018 and 2019, Indore has been declared as no.1 cleanest city consecutively for two years among other cities of India. Academics The UG and PG curriculum of IIT Indore emphasizes on imparting strong theoretical fundamentals and giving equal importance to practical knowledge and hands- on experience to its budding engineers using an inter-disciplinary, humanistic and holistic approach. Consequently, BTech students study 10-12 practical courses independently during 3-8 semesters of their program. All the students in their first year of BTech program do practical courses on Chemistry, Physics, Engineering Graphics, Computer Programming, Basic Manufacturing Techniques and Basic Electrical and Electronic Engineering along with their theory courses. Additionally, there are compulsory courses on (i) English language to help the students to improve their communication skills, (ii) Economics course to give fundamental knowledge about micro and macro-economics, (iii) Biosciences course to provide fundamental knowledge and exposure to different aspects of life sciences, (iv) Experimental Engineering Lab to impart practical training on measurement of fundamental quantities, (v) Scientific and social aspects of Environmental Studies to sensitize the students about the importance and conservation of environment and adverse effects of industrial and daily activities on it. The Institute has revised its UG curriculum in March 2014 to enable its BTech students to make their BTech project research-oriented of 6-7 months duration which can be done either outside the institute or within the institute by freeing 7thsemester of BTech program from any type of coursework. The institute also provides funding for some deserving and high-quality BTech projects as well as Institute awards the Best BTech Project among the graduating batch in its annual Convocation. All the elective courses in 8th semester of BTech program are open elective course enabling the students to have a choice-based-credits system. Many courses are cross- listed for both PG and PhD students to enhance the interaction between the UG and PG students. The Institute started the concept of Minor programs and/or additional learning in March 2014 to provide its BTech students an opportunity for additional learning and earn an additional degree by earning credits in at least five courses of a particular minor specialization in addition to BTech degree in his/her major specialization. At present minor programs are available offered in Chemistry, Biosciences and Biomedical Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences and Astronomy. IIT Indore also provides an opportunity to its BTech students to convert their program into a 5 Year BTech + MTech Dual Degree program during the 6th semester. French language courses are available to its UG and PG students. The institute has made special provisions for Defence Forces personnel to help them to pursue MTech and PhD programs at IIT Indore. From AY 2018-19 IIT Indore is introducing four PG programs i.e., MSc in Astronomy in the Centre of Astronomy, MTech in Mechanical System Design in the Discipline of Mechanical Engineering, MTech in Metallurgy Engineering in the Discipline of Metallurgy Engineering and Materials Science and MS (Research) in the Discipline of Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. In order to make a global presence and for spreading the light of knowledge beyond political borders, this Institute has opened its doors for international applicants for pursuing PG and PhD programs from AY 2018-19. This Institute has inked MOUs with 35 foreign institutions of repute to increase the ambit of knowledge sharing. More information related to academics can be found at http://academic.iiti.ac.in/ International relations and collaborations IIT Indore faculty and students have been collaborating with countries worldwide since its inception. Most notable among these have been with Germany and France. Status of these collaborations is listed at the end. Other important collaborations have been with USA, Canada, UK, Russia, Japan, and Australia. Here, we have active research collaborations at individual levels, which we are trying to formalize including talks regarding joint-degree programs. We have international students present on our campus during a substantial time of the year under internship/ exchange programs from all over the world (North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia). We are also actively participating in the Study in India Program (of MHRD) for attracting international students to our degree programs, especially those from the developing world (SAARC, ASEAN, West Asia, and Africa). German Collaboration: Most notable links among German institutes have been with the TU9 universities, which are centers of technological excellence in Germany. Namely, KIT, LU Hannover, RWTH Aachen, TU Berlin, TU Braunschweig, TU Darmstadt, TU Dresden, TU Munich, and University of Stuttgart. Over the past three years, due to our diligent efforts and support of both the Indian and the German partners, we have had steep expansion in collaborative research with these TU9s. Currently, we are leading all the Indian institutions in the most links with them. That is, we are collaborating with all the nine in multiple areas, have signed individual Memoranda of Understanding with six of the nine (the latest MoU with University of Stuttgart was signed on behalf of all the TU9s), and are solving important/ relevant problems (joint papers are constantly being published). We have strong links with non-TU9 institutions as well. That is, with IFW Dresden, IKP Forschungszentrum Juelich, five Max Planck Institutes (Dresden, Heidelberg, Leipzig, Magdeburg and Munich), University of Dortmund, and University of Bonn. Here, we have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Max Planck Institute in Magdeburg. French Collaboration: France related activities started at IIT Indore with the beginning of French classes in 2010. We have had a French instructor on-campus for most of this past decade, and many of our students have being taking minor degree programs in the French language. Since then, our interactions with France have gone from strength to strength. This includes regular exchange of faculty and students as well as work on joint research projects. Since the past two years, we have had an increase in French-related activities on our campus. In 2017, we hosted the French admissions tour organized by French Embassy, and also actively participated in the French Embassy programs of Bonjour India, Future Tour, and Entrepreneurship Challenge. As of now, we are collaborating
