FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Contact: Ed Krajewski [email protected] HE WHO SCORES FIRST... ALBANY, NY -- Coaches, players, and fans alike will tell you that getting out of the gate and scoring first in a game is often essential to a team’s confidence and ultimately to winning. This belief is ever more prevelant in the 12 total ECAC Hockey games last weekend, as the team that lit the lamp first, came out on top. Cracking into the Top 20 in the national polls in the No. 18 position and moving up the ladder to take over first place in the league standings, Princeton extended its winning streak to five games with wins over Yale, 4-3, and Brown, 6-2. Junior forward Lee Jubinville and freshman forward Mike Kramer tallied 11 points for the Tigers in the two conference wins. Jubinville is currently tied for the league lead in scoring (6-12-18), while Kramer was selected ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week for his offensive efforts. Princeton’s travel partner Quinnipiac added on to a streak of its own by sweeping the road weekend series versus Brown, 6-3, and blanking Yale, 3-0. The Bobcats were led by sophomore forward Brandon Wong, who netted two goals and three assists in the two wins. Junior goaltender Bud Fisher held the Bulldogs scoreless Saturday, stopping 16 shots for his second shutout of the season and eighth of his career, passing former Bobcats netminder Jamie Holden as Quinnipiac’s all-time leader in shutouts. With the sweep the Bobcats are now ranked No. 14 in the nation and are riding a nine-game unbeaten streak (8-0-1), which is the nation’s longest current streak. Extending its winning streak to four games, Union once again proved why home is a friendly place. Overall this season the Dutchmen now own a Messa Rink record of 6-1-3, as they defeated Colgate and Cornell for the first time in the same weekend since 2000. Contributions seemed to come from everywhere, as five different players scored goals in the 5-4 win over Colgate Friday. On Saturday, Union held Cornell’s offense in check holding the Big Red to 17 shots in the 2-1 victory. Senior netminder Justin Mrazek led the immobilization of the hot Big Red offense allowing just one goal and making several clutch stops in the third period. Both Cornell and Colgate would split its weekend series in the Capital District by downing Rensselaer 2-1 and 4-0 respectively.
