George Mason University Office of Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs and Student Affairs School of Business Administration Fairfax, Virginia 22030-4444 (703)993-1880 December 18, 1991 The Grand Council Delta Sigma Pi 330 South Campus Ave. Oxford, Ohio 45056 Dear Council: I am writing at the request of Ms. Kathy L Carlstrom to manifest my support for the petition to establish a chapter of Delta Sigma Pi at George Mason University. I strongly support said petition and believe that approval of such would result in a mutually beneficial relationship between George Mason's business student community and your organization. I hope that the Grand Council acts favorably upon the George Mason petition. Sincerely, Richard L Coffinber^r Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs and Student Affairs RLC/ss cc: file Geoige Mason University George Mason University Fairfax, Virginia 22030-4444 (703) 993-1 000 Carl Quitmeyer 4001 Old Hickory Road Fairfax, VA. 22032 January 12, 1992 The Grand Council Delta Sigma Pi Fratemity 330 South Campus Avenue Oxford, Ohio 45056 Gentlemen: Several months ago, a former student and teaching assistant of mine, Kathy Carlstrom, stopped by the office to ask if I would be the faculty advisor for a business fratemity being organized on campus, I had never heard of the organization she mentioned, however I agreed because of my high regard for her. In these intervening months, I have been a frequent observer at the new group's organizational meetings, discussions and social events and have been very impressed by the progress they have made in such a short period of time. The dedication, hard work, organizational skills, teamwork and professionalism they have demonstrated has been outstanding and tmly exemplary. Similarly, I was impressed by the helpfulness cuid professionalism of the Delta Sigma Pi student representatives who came to our campus to assist in this process. In short, what began for me as a casual accommodation of a student's request has tumed into an attitude of admiration and respect, not only for the student members of the local colony but for the Delta Sigma Pi organization as a whole. I am now honored and delighted to be associated both with a campus group that shows the drive that these students have demonstrated and with an organization that can motivate students to achieve what these students have accomplished. It is my understanding that the Gamma Mu Upsilon colony at George Mason University is petitioning for a charter in the Delta Sigma Pi Intemational Business Fratemity. I recommend your consideration and affirmative response to their request. I am convinced that your organization can have a significant positive influence in molding our student members into successful leaders and professionals. Conversely, I believe our university's chapter, if the requested charter is granted, will contribute to the strength and success of your organization. If I can be of further assistance in any way, please feel free to contact me or call me at (703) 978-4840. Sincerely yours Carl Qukmeyer if International Fraternity of Delta Sigma Pi Michael J. Spadaro MidEastem Regional Director 1/24/92 The International Fraternity of Delta Sigma Pi 33 0 South Campus Ave Oxford , Ohio 45056 Attn: C. Dean Ferguson / Director of Chapter Services Dear Dean; I am pleased to be writing this letter today to request the installation of the Gamma Mu Upsilon Colony at George Mason University into our fraternity. I have watched over this group for the past semester and have been quite pleased with their progress. To date they have a membership in excess of 46 and a C.E.I, total of over 10,000 points. I have been impressed with their professionalism and their drive over the last semester. They have enjoyed the help and support of another chapter in the region, Iota Kappa at James Madison University. I think with this support and direction they have been able to develop quickly and now represent the caliber individuals we expect to become members of our organization. I think it is now time to proceed with the process and accept their petition for membership. I strongly recommend, based upon their organization as it exists today, that we install the Gamma Mu Upsilon Colony into full brotherhood and charter them as a chapter. If you have any questions or wish further information please do not hesitate to contact me. Fraternally, Michael J. Spadaro MidEastern Regional Director 72 Wren Drive Holland, Pennsylvania 18966 January 20, 1992 Grand Council of the International Fraternity of Delta Sigma Pi 330 South Campus Avenue Oxford, Ohio 45056 Dear Grand Council: I graduated from George Mason University in January of 1990 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. Although I enjoyed my four years there, it was often difficult to meet people since the majority of students commute. Most of my friends were met through a sports team, as I chose not to become involved with the social fraternities and sororities. I would have liked to have had the chance to be involved with a fraternity such as Delta Sigma Pi, through which I could have met other students in the same field of study. I support the idea of establishing a chapter of Delta Sigma Pi at George Mason. This fraternity would provide an excellent opportunity for co-ed business students to meet with each other in academic and social environments. Most of the other clubs and organizations at George Mason segregate students by major or sex. Delta Sigma Pi would allow business students from a variety of majors to gather to share ideas, information, and assistance as they work towards their common goal of entering the business world.
