On retiring after a 28-year career as a human resources officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, Chantal Fraser founded Empowered Path Inc. She is a confident speaker who teaches others by sharing real-life stories to illustrate her points on a range of topics. Chantal provides a wealth of knowledge on inclusion, diversity, mentoring, leadership, career transitions, networking and work life balance. Chantal helps organizations become more inclusive by advising how they can attract, hire and retain people from under-represented groups. Each talk is tailored to the audience. Completely bilingual, Chantal presents in English, French and bilingual format. In addition, Chantal coaches individuals going through career transitions and offers personalized business coaching. Her goal is to help individuals, communities and businesses thrive. Chantal Fraser has a CEGEP Déclarât in Science and Engineering and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from le Collège militaire royale du . She has a Master of Business Administration from the Royal Military College of Canada and is a graduate of the Canadian Forces Joint Command and Staff Programme.

Mark Gallupe is a professor in the Social Service Worker program at Loyalist College. He has worked closely and extensively with his colleagues Paul Zakos and Rose Marie Reid on many projects involving adult learning practice, prior learning assessment and recognition (PLAR/RPL), portfolio development and adult learner friendly institutions (ALFI). Their work has taken them across Canada, South Africa and Chile. Mark is a PLAR/RPL advisor and assessor at Loyalist College and a PLAR/RPL assessor with Athabasca University. For over twenty-five years, he has attended and presented at the annual PLAR conference in Belleville as well as at the annual CAPLA conference.

Neil Kerby is a professor and coordinator of the Community and Justice Services program at Loyalist College. Neil has worked as an advisor and assessor of PLAR/RPL at Loyalist over the past 10 years, and he has had his prior learning assessed for credit at both the college and university level. Prior to Loyalist, Neil worked in the Human Services sector as a residential counsellor, educator, employee relations manager and senior manager

Sara Kelleher is a graduate of Loyalist College and works as the pathways coordinator in the Enrolment Services department at Loyalist College. Sara currently sits on the Loyalist College Board of Governors as the support staff representative, is the chief steward for Support Staff OPSEU Local 421 and is the chair of College Council.

Elizabeth Nicholas, CHRP/CHRL, is the employment and education coordinator, human resources support for the Trenton Military Family Resource Centre. She combines her natural passion for empowering others with more than 17 years of professional employment and educational counselling and a background in marketing; she is also a certified human resource leader who helps members of the military community attain their transitional goals. Credited with building two portfolio courses, uniquely designed for military spouses and military members who are medically releasing, Liz loves to share the process and celebrate the successes along the way!

Kerry Ramsay has taught full-time in the post-graduate Public Relations & Event Management program at Loyalist College for 12 years. She has spoken widely on the subject of personal branding, marketing and social media across North America. She holds a master’s degree in Journalism from .

Rose Marie Reid is a professor in the Child & Youth Care program at Loyalist College. She has worked extensively with colleagues Paul Zakos and Mark Gallupe on many PLAR related initiatives.

Priscilla Tremblay uses her strong interpersonal and administrative talents coupled with her bilingualism to assist Elizabeth Nicholas within the role of employment and education assistant. A strong advocate for the military community, Priscilla has recently attained her Advisor and Assessor Certification and has been credited with taking a hands-on approach with many program offerings, including Portfolio Development sessions.

Paul Zakos has been actively involved in adult education, program and policy development, training and human resource development for almost 40 years, and has designed and implemented education and training materials for adults in formal education settings and in the workplace. He has acted as an advisor for the development and implementation of federal and provincial policy in relation to PLAR and adult learning. Paul began practicing PLAR in 1979 when he was the coordinator of the Social Service Worker program at Loyalist College and has since helped develop and implement PLAR and adult learning policies, practices and resource materials at the federal level and in several provinces across Canada. He has also conducted similar work internationally in the United States, South Africa and Chile, working with a variety of stakeholder groups and individuals to improve services to adult learners. Paul has authored and co- authored three PLAR guidebooks – one for adult learners and two for PLAR practitioners (advisors and assessors). He has also written numerous articles on PLAR and adult learning. He is currently a member of the newly formed board (2017) of the International Indigenous Recognition of Prior Learning Collective. He was a founding director of the Canadian Association for Prior Learning Assessment (CAPLA) and was its first president from 1994 – 2002. Paul was seconded to First Nations Technical Institute (FNTI) from Loyalist, where he spent 26 years as manager of the PLA and Program Department. FNTI was CAPLA’s birthplace and its first home until 2002 when CAPLA assumed a more independent stance.
