Psalm 48 is no exception to this and it tells us something about our belief in God and what our response is to his presence. The first thing the writer notes is the greatness of God - God who led their father Abraham from Ur of the Chaldees to a land where they would worship the one true God called Yahweh or Jehovah.

    Dangerous Obstruction of the Railway An elderly man named Philip Thick, labourer, Bemerton, was charged with negligently leaving a wagon on the London and South-Western Railway, on the 26th ult., in the parish of Fugglestone St Peter. Edward Chapman, engine driver on the line mentioned, stated that as he was driving the passenger train which leaves Exeter at 10.5 a.m., he observed a farm wagon standing across the rails at a private crossing between Wilton and Salisbury. The train was then a quarter of a mile from that part of the line, and he immediately sounded the whistle violently, and the steam being thus shut off, had the breaks applied. There was a sharp curve on the line at that point. There being also a descending gradient there, the train was going at a good speed. The wagon, to which a horse was attached, was driven to the other side of the line shortly after he sounded the whistle, but it only got clear of the rails when the train was a few yards from it. The guard and stoker of the train gave similar evidence. Mr Whatman appeared for the defence, and submitted that it was very important that the bench should know the exact distance from the point of the line where the crossing could be seen to the crossing itself. The driver stated that the distance was a quarter of a mile. He had been instructed that it was only some seventy or eighty yards; and assuming that the whistle was sounded at that distance off, he thought the court would not consider that sufficient warning was given for the crossing.

    Kellys Directory Extract 1915 Mere MERE is a union town and parish on the borders of three counties – Wilts, Dorset and Somerset – which meet in the vicinity, and is on the road from Salisbury to Taunton Dean, 4 miles north from Gillingham station on the Salisbury to Yeovil branch of the South Western railway, 23 west-by-north from Salisbury, 7 west from Hindon, 7 east-by-north from Wincanton and 102 from London, in the Southern division of the county, Mere hundred, Tisbury and Mere Petty Sessional division, county court district of Shaftesbury, Wylye rural deanery (Heytesbury portion), archdeaconry of Sarum and diocese of Salisbury. The town is lighted with gas from works erected in 1866. The water supply for the whole district is provided by the Rural District Council. The church of St Michael the Archangel is a building of stone in the Perpendicular style, with traces of Early English and reputed Saxon work, consisting of chancel with chapels, clerestoried nave of five bays, aisles, north and south porches, over each of which is a parvise, and a western tower 100 feet high, with pinnacles, and containing a clock with chimes and 8 bells: the chancel is separated from the nave by a beautifully carved oak screen, the upper part of which has been restored at the cost of Mrs A Morrison: there are two chantry chapels, and in the south chapel is a brass to John Betteshorne, d.1398: the present chancel and the chapels were built in the 14th century, but the tower dates from about the middle of the 15th century: there are 580 sittings: in 1883 the churchyard was leveled and planted with shrubs and flowers.

If you had watched the installation for any length of time, you would have seen people sitting with friends and strangers, eating picnics on them, running and jumping on and around them, some even embracing within their enclosures.   • Cyril F Carey's Story
    ANZAC DAY 2014 - Commemoration The Christchurch earthquakes have shaken our lives and our memories. They have also unearthed many stories and it is thanks to the vigilance of a demolition crew that they did not throw away the tattered scrapbook found in the debris of a house last year but returned it to its family. That scrapbook provided the basis for the commemoration today. Lieutenant Cyril Fuller Carey Died of wounds November 7th 1916 Sling Camp, Salisbury Plain, England Cyril Fuller Carey was born in 1891, the second son of Mr and Mrs A F Carey, owners of Carey’s Ready Money store in Christchurch with Mr Carey being a well-known draper. Cyril attended Christchurch Boys’ High School in 1906 and 1907 and left school to join the Union Steam Ship Company as a cadet on the training ship Dartford. He trained at sea for several years and in 1912 left to follow ‘farming pursuits near Blenheim’. The outbreak of war saw Cyril join up, and while little is known of his training, he is listed as a Second Lieutenant in the 12th(Nelson) Infantry Regiment which left New Zealand in March 1916 as part of the 10th Reinforcements of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. The regiment spent a brief time in Egypt before moving to England to a camp on the Salisbury Plain known as Sling Camp. This was home to over 4000 NZ troops and served as a training ground for troops being sent to France and as a rehabilitation centre. The site is now overlooked by the Bulford Kiwi, carved by the soldiers into the limestone hill above the camp.

To present the findings and recommendations of the task group to Cabinet for consideration alongside the Cabinet Member’s/Corporate Director’s report on Special School Provision at the 15th May 2018 Cabinet meeting. 2. To present the Interim Report of the SEND School Provision Task Group for retrospective endorsement by the Children’s Select Committee on 19th June 2018. Background 3. At the 5th September Children’s Select Meeting members were provided with an overview of the work undertaken regarding securing appropriate and adequate special school provision for children and young people in Wiltshire. The committee was informed that a joint steering group, supported by a specialist SEN consultant, had been established. The work of this group had concluded and produced a report referred to as “The Wood Report” which detailed the findings and consultants’ recommendations. The committee resolved at the end of discussion to establish a task group to look at the plans for the future provision of SEND schools and school places in Wiltshire. Terms of reference 4. The following terms of reference for the task group were endorsed by the Children’s Select Committee on 31st October 2017: 1) To consider the future provision of SEND education for Wiltshire’s children and young people in the context of the challenges outlined in the “Wood Report”/WASSPP report (May 2017). 2) To receive evidence from: a.
