Those were fun times that you never forget and we were all headed for bigger and better things around the world. I had many friends at Ames High and perhaps the fondest memory was being able to play on the football team in 1951. The most exciting time for me was when I was named to start as a defensive back against Marshalltown and I only weighed 130 pounds at the time. I even made honorable mention on the All Conference team. I can thank Hi Covey and Ken Wells for that!
