TOM FRANSWAY FOR ASSEMBLY DISTRICT 12 I am a life-long Nevadan with a strong commitment to its land and people. I have 49 years of public service: 23 years as a Winnemucca rural fi reman, 18 years as a Hum- boldt County commissioner and eight years as a member of the Nevada Department of Transportation Board of Directors. My work ethic and my ability to build consensus are well known throughout the state. I have served on several local, state and federal boards and commissions. Locally I have sat on numerous community boards governing emergency management, the hos- pital, economic development and fair and recreation. I have also served on several state and national boards associated with public lands issues: the Nevada Association of Counties, the National Association of Counties and two terms as a member of the Nevada Interim Legislative Committee on Public Lands. While serving in those capacities I promoted mining, ranching and recreation inter- ests by supporting the multiple use concept through open access, proper management and sensible regulation. I fought against over-regulation contrary to the Taylor Grazing Act, the Mining Law of 1872, the Surface Disturbance Clause 3809 and the right to access public lands through the mapping of the RS2477 road system. As a fi scal conservative I am dedicated to a balanced budget crafted through a policy of controlled spending and a reasonable tax structure. Revenue should not be adjusted to accommodate over-spending. For far too long the Nevada legislature has been polarized by ideological differences that have obstructed the goal of accom- plishing the people’s business. I will work to restore civil discourse in Carson City. I am not running to make a statement, I am running to make a difference. Public safety is government’s number one responsibility. I will enthusiastically support victims’ rights legislation. Your constitu- tional right to bear arms shall not be infringed upon. The second amendment guarantees it. I will defend it. Water resources are Nevada’s life blood. I will continue to oppose the inter-basin transfer of water for municipal use out of the region. If uncontrolled growth continues our water resources will be depleted and the quality of life that is unique to rural Nevada will become a distant memory. I will promote legislation to protect Nevada’s agriculture economy and lessen the threat from unconcerned urban special inter- ests. Northern Nevada’s water resources need sound management to sustain a healthy ecosystem. I will make it a top priority. I take the public trust seriously. My experience qualifi es me to serve you in the state assembly. I ask for your support. Pd. Pol. Adv. P age 4 Mineral County Independent-News || The Week of May 24, 2018 2018 Armed Forces Day
