LA/ASHE Headteachers’ termly conference: Friday 13th May – Key note speaker will be Professor Rob Coe who will be joining us again to continue the conversations about what really makes a difference to the quality of learning in schools and helping to agree some pragmatic solutions for our schools. 1.2. New GCSE and A Level Specifications Network Events with the Exam Boards – The Saffron Alliance, along with the Essex County Council Standards and Excellence team would like to invite your staff to an important event at no cost to delegates. This is an exciting opportunity to hear from each of the Awarding Organisations to directly compare the new GCSE and A Level specifications for first teaching in September 2016. This event has been commissioned by the Essex County Council Standards and Excellence team. To be held on Tuesday 15th March & Wednesday 23rd March 2016. At & , Notley Road, Braintree Essex CM7 1WY. Refreshments at 4.00pm with sessions from 4.15pm – 6.15pm. There will be an opportunity to visit subject specific presentations from up to four awarding organisations and network with colleagues from other schools also considering these important changes. The subjects to be covered on each evening are: 15th March: A level - Ancient languages, Religious Studies, Geography, PE (Pearson on the 23rd), Drama & Theatre Studies GCSE - History, MFL (Pearson on the 23rd), Food preparation & Nutrition, Drama Level 3 - vocational subjects Applied General & Tech levels Please note that on the 15th March OCR and AQA will also be going through their GCSE Religious studies spec 23rd March: A level - MFL, Dance, Music GCSE - Sciences, Computer Science, Art & Design, Citizenship, Dance, Geography, Music, Religious Studies (OCR on 15th March), PE Level 2 - Vocational subjects. Please note that Pearson will also be presenting their GCSE MFL specs and A level P.E. A few of the subject advisers are not available on the main night for the specification comparison and they will present their GCSE and A level options at the same time (see details in italics) Please encourage as many of your subject leads as possible to attend this valuable opportunity to compare the specifications and network with colleagues from other schools going through the same decisions. Subject Hubs and Networks for the new 2015 GCSE/A level subjects – ECC have commissioned TSAs to lead on developing additional hubs and networks with support from the Essex Collaborative Outreach Network. The aim is to facilitate schools to share effective practice and save staff time when planning and implementing new linear courses. A key aim is to help students to make effective progress during KS4 and in their transfers into KS5 to meet the demands of the new rigorous linear examinations. Further details soon. 1.4. Essex Sixth Sense – 21st June (Anglia Ruskin University). This will include information and guidance to support progression to University, including a Q&A session with a range of admissions tutors. The afternoon will include presentations by Alps about the new Post 16 measures and the new KS4 reports available. Senior leaders involved in your data systems and analysis will be welcome to join the afternoon session. 1.5. A reminder that all Designated Safeguard Leads are required to update their training at least every two years. National Education Trust (NET) have been commissioned to evaluate schools’ success in raising achievement for disadvantaged pupils. Marc Roland will be sharing their findings at the conference. Professor Steve Higgins co-author of the Department for Education research report, Supporting the
