In 1921 it was reorganized int a four-year State Teachers' College and in 1935 it hecame San Diego State College to reflect the growth in clriculum from strictly teacher training. Again in 1971 the name was changed, this time to California State University, San Diego and after a long campaign by alumni the final name change to San Diego State University was approved in 1973� The present location established in 1931* is a 275 acre campus located on the south mesa above Mission Valley not far from the ' 208 year old San Diego de Alcala, Califoimia s first mission. The seven original campus buildings bear a strong resemblance to typical California missions with their open-faced bell towers, arches and covered passages. Recent campus additions retain elements of the mission style but add a modem, multi-story appearance. Ei^ty-three percent of the 1,900 professors on the permanent teaching facility hold doctorates in their discipline. Undergraduate degrees include Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Music, or Bachelor of Vocational Education in some 72 fields. The Graduate School was founded in 19^9 and awards a Master of Arts and Master of Science degree in over 50 fields. Two-year programs are available for Master of Business Administration, Master of City Planning and Social Work. Doctoral degrees in Chemistry, Ecology and Genetics are awarded jointly with the University of California. As one of the 19 Universities in the Californis State University and College System, San Diego State University adds an enrollment of 29,000 to the system total of 30^1-, 000 students. San Diego State University's schools and colleges Include, the College of Business Administration, College of Arts and Letters, College of Education, College of Engineering, College of Professional Studies, College of Sciences, and the School of Social Work. Also offered are full year credit studies on university cajnpuses in 12 foreign countries. Campus radio, KPBS FM and television, KPBS TV stations serve San Diego Goxmty. Over 200 student organizations are established on campus including Phi Beta Kappa established in 197^, 1^ national social fraternities and 10 national social sororities. School colors; Red and Black Mascot: Aztec Athletics: Member Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Accreditation: Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The College of Business Administration at San Diego State University had its beginning with the establishment in 1921 of the Department of Commerce. In 1935 the first A. B. degree in Liberal Arts with a major in Commerce was granted. The first separation in listing Commerce and Economics classes came in 19^ and in 1951 it became the Division of Business. The name again changed to the Division of Business Administration in 1955* in 1958 application was submitted for accreditation to the American Association of Collegiate Schools of Business and subsequently was granted. The name again was changed to the School of Business Administration and recently again to its cxorrent designation, The College of Business Administration. The ideological beginning of Delta Sigma Pi at San Diego State University dates at least as early as 1958 to an accredidation report prepared by the faculty and administration of the Division of Business. (APPENDIX a) . Its recent beginnings were at the Intermountain Regional Conference hosted by Gamma Omega in October, 1978 when the possibility of a chapter at San Diego State was discussed between several alumni and Grand President Bill Tatum. Later that month Bill Tatum visited Dean Hungate to insure his support. He was enthusiastically received and plans for a spring semester rush were made. Several weeks later Dean Hungate was again visited this time tsy Executive Director Ben Wolferberger. Again, the Dean insured his desire and support of a Delta Sigma Pi chapter at San Diego State University. Preparations for a rush table began with the posting of signs furnished liy the Central Office and coiartesy of Gamma Omega chapter and Carl Brown. On Tuesday February 13th and Wednesday February l^th the table was set up and manned by Grand President Bill Tatum and Gamma Omega alumni Greg Kasun. Over sixty interested students signed up. An introductory meeting held on Wednesday February l^th with a smaller than anticipated number in attendance. Plans were made for a follow up meeting ajid it was held on February 25th. Although the attendance at this meeting was again small, this group took the initiative to plan a second rush table and rush function, organize a setting, and get campus wide advertising. (Appendix A) . The event a "kegger" party with beer supplied ly area aliomni was a success and over '^-O students attended and plans were made for a fourth meeting. This meeting resulted in the election of officers: Steve Koch President Steve Kagel Vice-President Lee Ho Treasijrer Anne Demos Secretary John Frederick Historian Committees were established and possible projects were discussed. Plans for futirce meetings to be held at Aztec Center on Sunday to evenings at 5:30 pm were made and committees sent out Investigate their projects. As meetings continued chapter projects were determined to be: Financial - SDSU College of Business T-shirt sale. The sale has just been completed, over 250 sold, and distribution of shirts ordered is scheduled for the week of April 16-19. Service - The repair and clean-up of the Child Care center on campus adjacent to the College of Business. Professional - A tour of Bernardo Winery in Rancho Bernardo is scheduled, a tour of Pacific Southwest Airlines is pending, ajad contact has been made for a speaker from local business. Social - An Installation Banquet at the Atlantis Restaurant. Papers are on file for the granting of on campus status for the organization. (Appendix A). The Present The College of Business Administration headed by Dean Robert P. Hungate is located on the third and fourth floors of the Business Administration/Mathematics building on the far east side of campus. It is divided into six departments: School of Accountancy with 38 full and part-time instructors Finance Department with ^1 fxill and part-time instructors Information Systems Department with 27 full and part-time instructors Management Department with 36 full and part-time instructors Marketing Department with 28 full and part-time instructors Currently there ar 15 College of Business Administration based organizations headed by the Associated Business Students Council. Total undergraduate enrollment for the fall semester of 1978 was 5,026 students. 2,3^6 were Pre-Business majors, underclassmen are designated Pre-Business majors since entrance to a professional program is limited to upperclassmen, 95^ Accounting majors, 659 Management majors, Marketing-W+ majors. Finance -335 majors, m6 majors in Information Systems, 116 in Real Estate, and 26 Indurance majors. The University operates on a semester system.
