Diocese in Europe Prayer Diary, July to December 2011
DIOCESE IN EUROPE PRAYER DIARY, JULY TO DECEMBER 2011 This calendar has been compiled to help us to pray together for one another and for our common concerns. Each chaplaincy, with the communities it serves, is remembered in prayer once a year, according to the following pattern: Eastern Archdeaconry - January, February Archdeaconry of France - March, April Archdeaconry of Gibraltar - May, June Diocesan Staff - July Italy & Malta Archdeaconry - July Archdeaconry of North West Europe - August, September Archdeaconry of Germany and Northern Europe Nordic and Baltic Deanery - September, October Germany - November Swiss Archdeaconry - November, December Each Archdeaconry, with its Archdeacon, is remembered on a Sunday. On the other Sundays, we pray for subjects which affect all of us (e.g. reconciliation, on Remembrance Sunday), or which have local applications for most of us (e.g. the local cathedral or cathedrals). Some chaplains might like to include prayers for the other chaplaincies in their deanery. We also include the Anglican Cycle of Prayer (daily, www.aco.org), the World Council of Churches prayer cycle (weekly, www.oikoumene.org, prayer resources on site), the Porvoo Cycle (weekly, www.porvoochurches.org), and festivals and commemorations from the Common Worship Lectionary (www.churchofengland.org/prayer-worship/worship/texts.aspx). Sundays and Festivals, printed in bold type, have special readings in the Common Worship Lectionary. Lesser Festivals, printed in normal type, have collects in the Common Worship Lectionary. Commemorations, printed in italics, may have collects in Exciting Holiness, and additional, non- biblical, readings for all of these may be found in Celebrating the Saints (both SCM-Canterbury Press). -

A LIST OF PERSONS CONCERNED IN THE REBELLION TRANSMITTED TO THE COMMISSIONERS OF EXCISE BY THE SEVERAL SUPERVISORS IN SCOTLAND IN OBEDIENCE TO A GENERAL LETTER OF THE 7TH MAY 1746 AND A SUPPLEMENTARY LIST WITH EVIDENCES TO PROVE THE SAME With a Preface by THE EARL OF ROSEBERY and Annotations by the REV. WALTER MACLEOD EDINBURGH Printed at the University Press by T. and A. CONSTABLE for the President of the Scottish History Society 1890 CONTENTS PREFACE BY THE EARL OF ROSEBERY, LIST OF REBELS, SUPPLEMENTARY LIST, WITH EVIDENCES, APPENDIX BY THE REV. WALTER MACLEOD— I. ANALYSIS OF THE LIST,357 II. BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES,363 NOTES ON SUPPLEMENTARY LIST, . 386 III. ILLUSTRATIVE DOCUMENTS,390 . PREFACE THE list here printed is the bare official record of our last historical romance. There were afterwards in Great Britain Gordon Riots, and Bristol Riots, and Peterloo itself—these, though tragic, were ephemeral: but the march of the High- landers on London in 1745 was a civil war, perhaps the most picturesque and the most difficult to realise of all such con- flicts. For the tale in brief is this :— A hundred and forty-five years ago a French-born prince of British origin leaves Belleisle and lands in the Western Highlands. He is alone with seven followers, and a handful of louis d’ors, but his name with its traditions, and his own gallant bearing, rally round him a few chiefs and their followers. -
Over the Years the Fife Family History Society Journal Has Reviewed Many Published Fife Family Histories
PUBLISHED FAMILY HISTORIES [Over the years The Fife Family History Society Journal has reviewed many published Fife family histories. We have gathered them all together here, and will add to the file as more become available. Many of the family histories are hard to find, but some are still available on the antiquarian market. Others are available as Print on Demand; while a few can be found as Google books] GUNDAROO (1972) By Errol Lea-Scarlett, tells the story of the settlement of the Township of Gundaroo in the centre of the Yass River Valley of NSW, AUS, and the families who built up the town. One was William Affleck (1836-1923) from West Wemyss, described as "Gundaroo's Man of Destiny." He was the son of Arthur Affleck, grocer at West Wemyss, and Ann Wishart, and encourged by letters from the latter's brother, John (Joseph Wiseman) Wishart, the family emigrated to NSW late in October 1854 in the ship, "Nabob," with their children, William and Mary, sole survivors of a family of 13, landing at Sydney on 15 February 1855. The above John Wishart, alias Joseph Wiseman, the son of a Fife merchant, had been convicted of forgery in 1839 and sentenced to 14 years transportation to NSW. On obtaining his ticket of leave in July 1846, he took the lease of the Old Harrow, in which he established a store - the "Caledonia" - and in 1850 added to it a horse-powered mill at Gundaroo some 18 months later. He was the founder of the family's fortunes, and from the 1860s until about 1900 the Afflecks owned most of the commercial buildings in the town. -
