Mind matters has been always in the mind of Cortona - the unity between mind and matter has been one of the silent foundations of Cortona since the very beginning. We started in Cortona 1 – in the far ago 1985! – with a famous lecture by Francisco Varela, and continued with various workshops and lectures in the field of science and humanities. We learned again and again that one cannot conceive consciousness without a body, and alternatively that, where a healthy living being is, there must be cons- ciousness – so that there is not one without the other. This is also the thousand year old teaching that comes from Pier Luigi Luisi the East, and it is beautiful that modern western science has rediscovered this truth with its own rational tools. This integration, as the Cortona tradition tells us, is not a sim- plistic and chaotic mixing of things from the area of psychology, humanities, religiosity and physical sciences- but the consideration and respect of each discipline as it is: – integration, we have learned, is an exercise of tolerance and certainly not a watering out of science or a hardening the soul-based values. -
"Da Newton Al SETI Le Derivate E Gli Integrali, Capiti Per La Prima Volta Da Newton Dopo Il 1666, Ma Pubblicati Per La Prim
CONGRESSO " ICARA 2018" CONVEGNO NAZIONALE RADIOASTRONOMIA AMATORIALE IARA ASSOCIAZIONE ASTRONOMIA ISAAC NEWTON COMUNE DI SANTA MARIA A MONTE 26-27-28 OTTOBRE 2018 OSSERVATORIO ASTRONOMICO DI TAVOLAIA CONFERENZE PUBBLICHE , accesso libero. CURRICULUM VITAE AND SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY : Dr. Claudio MACCONE, Ph. D. http://www.maccone.com/ Born in Torino (Turin), Italy, February 6, 1948. 1972, March 25. Obtained his first degree ("Laurea") in Physics at the University of Turin with the top mark of 110 points out of 110 and "praise" ("lode"). -

This event will assemble fresh new ideas and proposals on planetary robotic and human spaceflight exploration in such a manner that it will prepare the Heads of Space Agencies Summit on Space Exploration the next day on 10 January 2014 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. This conference will have innovative presentations in 6 parallel sessions: 1) human aspects in spaceflight, 2) scientific goals in robotics missions, 3) technical factors: enabling technologies / common requirements, 4) private industry’s role in space exploration and exploitation: technical, policy and legal considerations, 5) space exploration: the imperative of global cooperation, 6) space stations utilization for robotics and human spaceflight exploration. For more than 50 years, the Academy activities have always strengthened the effectiveness and supported global space activities. The intent is to foster closer and broader international cooperation and in order to accomplish this goal, the Academy, following the 2010 Summit Declaration, has engaged for the past two years in Summit follow-on activities. -
If the Universe Is Teeming with Aliens… WHERE IS EVERYBODY?
Science and Fiction Editorial Board Mark Alpert Philip Ball Gregory Benford Michael Brotherton Victor Callaghan Amnon H Eden Nick Kanas Geoffrey Landis Rudi Rucker Dirk Schulze-Makuch Rüdiger Vaas Ulrich Walter Stephen Webb More information about this series at http://www.springer.com/series/11657 Science and Fiction – A Springer Series This collection of entertaining and thought-provoking books will appeal equally to science buffs, scientists and science-fiction fans. It was born out of the recognition that scientific discovery and the creation of plausible fictional scenarios are often two sides of the same coin. Each relies on an understanding of the way the world works, coupled with the imaginative ability to invent new or alternative explanations—and even other worlds. Authored by practicing scientists as well as writers of hard science fiction, these books explore and exploit the borderlands between accepted science and its fictional counterpart. Uncovering mutual influences, promoting fruitful interaction, narrating and analyzing fictional scenarios, together they serve as a reaction vessel for inspired new ideas in science, technology, and beyond. Whether fiction, fact, or forever undecidable: the Springer Series “Science and Fiction” intends to go where no one has gone before! Its largely non-technical books take several different approaches. Journey with their authors as they • Indulge in science speculation—describing intriguing, plausible yet unproven ideas; • Exploit science fiction for educational purposes and as a means of promoting critical thinking; • Explore the interplay of science and science fiction—throughout the history of the genre and looking ahead; • Delve into related topics including, but not limited to: science as a creative process, the limits of science, interplay of literature and knowledge; • Tell fictional short stories built around well-defined scientific ideas, with a supplement summarizing the science underlying the plot. -

SETI Permanent Committee IAA SETI PC Meeting Wednesday, October 3, 2012 14:00 to 16:00
SETI Permanent Committee IAA SETI PC meeting Wednesday, October 3, 2012 14:00 to 16:00. Room MR3 (Hall 4) Naples, Italy Attendees: *Members: Seth Shostak, Paul Shuch, Claudio Maccone, Alexander Ollonger, John D. Rummel, Martin Dominik, Lori Walton, Robert DeBiase, Stephane Dumas, Roger Malina. *Guests: Monica Ebert, Carl L. Devito, Daniela de Paulis, Andrew Siemion, Valentina Marcheselli, Miriam Janssen, Mustapha Masmoudi, Michael Garrett, Gerry Harp. The meeting began with an introduction, followed by approval of the 2011 meeting minutes, as posted to the iaaseti.org website. Following were comments about the SETI technical session that preceded the meeting. The number of papers withdrawn from the SETI sessions was very high. There was a quick discussion about possible reasons for this. The first order of business is the election for the new chair. The chair is limited to two 5-year terms. The current chair, Seth Shostak, has completed his second term as chair. The election for the new chair had three nominated candidates. It was a very close election with a clear winner. Claudio Maccone won the election and is elected as the new chair. Following that announcement, a new member was introduced. Twenty-three votes were made to consider the candidate, all in favor of membership. The next meeting will be in Beijing, at the 64 th International Astronautical Congress. The SETI panel needs volunteers to Chair sessions (introduce speakers). A co-chair is also needed for each of the sessions. The panel is also looking for a session rapporteur (who fills out forms to publish content). Vacancies include: Co-chair (SETI 1), rapporteur (SETI 1). -
