ROAD CLOSURE NEAR ARDMORE / TRUMPAN Posted on 11/10/2019

Waternish Community Council Road Closure - Trumpan U4851 (Hallin Church to Trumpan road) A couple of days ago a large Ainscough Heavy Crane on its way to the Ardmore Sub Station took the wrong road and managed to get stuck. Although it extracted itself, the road surface has become damaged necessitating the closure of the road. Fortunately this is a loop road and an alternate route is available. We have no notice of how long this stretch of road will be closed.

ISAY ISLAND BEACH CLEAN Posted on 11/10/2019

Join our big beach clean to remove plastic from the shoreline of Island. We are seeking a team of volunteers to help with this initial beach clean. It will take place one day between 16th to 27th October, dependent on weather, tide and skip delivery. You will be taken to Isay Island by Divers Eye Boat Trips and will be ashore there for approximately 4 hours. We will split into teams to tackle as much of the shore as possible, clearing rubbish into bags, recording some data and recovering the rubbish back to the boat. This Beach Clean is being undertaken in collaboration with Gill Houlsby and Surfers Against Sewage, who we thank for their practical help and support. Please register as INTERESTED in being involved or as GOING on our facebook page event at this link - https://www.facebook.com/DiversEyeBoatTrips and/or by email to [email protected], advising us of all the days that you are available. Updates and arrangements for this beach clean will be posted on our facebook page and by direct email. Please feel welcome to phone 01470 592219 for more information. This is part of a wider Citizen Science project we are developing for 2020 and more news will follow soon. Help us make Waternish a cleaner safer place for our wildlife, residents and visitors.

WHAT'S ON AT THE AROS Posted on 10/10/2019 DAVID BRYANT'S SKYDIVE Posted: 11/10/2019

As mentioned in last week's newsletter, on Tuesday last, David Bryant with various other members of his family, including his daughter Ruth, landed safely back down to earth following their amazing parachute jumps. Before leaving Waternish, David spoke with typical nonchalance about the jump: ‘ I haven’t given it much thought, to be honest’. However, afterwards he did admit that the first 400m of freefall was: ‘much scarier than I expected’. The picture above, mid free-fall, is of David’s daughter, Ruth who has a Parkinson’s like condition and is raising money for the charity, The PSP Association. Please see the link below for more information and if you would like to make a donation: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ruthjumpsforpsp A few words from David himself: Aros Centre: 01478 613750 www.aroscommunitytheatre.co.uk A big thank you to all our friends on Skye who supported David’s charity The above listing is created in good faith from information provided by the Aros jump. COMMUNITY COUNCIL ELECTIONS Posted on 11/10/2019 HEALTH WALKS WITH STEP IT UP HIGHLANDS Posted on 10/10/2019

Waternish Community Council As you may be aware from the notice in the last newsletter, the Council has instigated public elections for the positions on the community councils across the Highlands. This year some of our members are not standing again for election and this may mean that we cannot form a community council unless other residents are interested in coming forward. This may be a trend across the Highland Council region because we have received the following statement from them. Dear Community Councillor, Due to a slow response to the call for nominations across the Highland Council area, the deadline for nominations has now been extended to 12 noon on Tuesday 29th October.
