1. SITUATION OVERVIEW
A 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit Castillejos, Zambales yesterday according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS)1. The following intensities were also reported: Intensity V: San Felipe, Zambales; Malolos and Obando, Bulacan; Quezon City; Lipa, Batangas; Manila City; Abucay, Bataan; Valenzuela City; Magalang, Pampanga Intensity IV: Pasig City; Makati City; Caloocan City; Meycauayan and City of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan; Floridablanca, Pampanga; Villasis, Pangasinan; Tagaytay City; Baguio City; Marikina City; Las Pinas City Intensity III: Dasmarinas, Indang and Gen. Trias, Cavite; Lucban, Quezon; Muntinlupa City, Cabanatuan City; Palayan City; Gapan City; Santo Domingo and Talavera, Nueva Ecija Intensity II: Baler, Auror

Aftershocks were also recorded and damages are being assessed.
2. CARITAS RESPONSE
NASSA/Caritas Philippines proceeded to do initial coordination (April 22, 2019) with the Diocesan Social Action Centers (DSACs) affected who in turn reported the following:
1. Clark International Airport was closed and all flights were cancelled 2. Several buildings and other infrastructures in Metro Manila and nearby provinces were reportedly damaged. The same reports were submitted by the Archdiocese of Pampanga and the Dioceses of Iba in Zambales and Bataan: a. The welcome arch in Pampanga, St. Catherine Church in Porac, SM Mall and Clark International Airport reported partial damages b. In Bataan, the St. Peter Martyr of Veronica Parish is partially damaged c. In Olongapo City, the SM Mall sustained partial dam 3. There is no power supply in Bataan where several coal-fired power plants are located, and in Lubao, Pampanga. 4. The province of Pampanga will declare state of calamity 5. Search and rescue operation continue in one of the supermarkets in Pampanga which already reported 5 dead

The Philippine Government declared a suspension of work in Metro Manila for damaged assessment on infrastructure. While travelers stranded following the closure of Pampanga’s Clark Airport closed for 24hours due to the earthquake damage, report says.
Meantime, as of this writing, a magnitude of 6.2 earthquake hits Eastern Samar. People are advised to be alert and prepared for possible aftershocks.
NASSA/Caritas Philippines are closely coordinating with the dioceses for the update and identification of the possible aid needed. 3. COORDINATION
NASSA/Caritas Philippines is continuing the coordination with the DSACs, with Radyo Veritas and with UN-OCHA, alongside other networks – Philippine Faith-Based Organization Forum (FBOPH), DRRNet Philippines and SAFER.
4. MEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS
Updates since yesterday have been posted in the social media platforms of the national Caritas while on-going gathering of information is being carried-out.
