Boasting the long straights with multiple elevation changes and the famous carousel turn, Road America is sometimes called ‘the Spa of North America’ in reference to the famous Belgian circuit. Qualifying: Saturday, Aug. 9, 8:30 a.m. CDT Races: Race 1: Saturday, Aug. 9, 7:00 p.m. CDT Race 2: Sunday, Aug. 10, 10:50 a.m. CDT Race Lengths: 45-minute timed races Track Records: Qualifying Lap: 2:38.484 (91.951 mph), John Dean, 2012 Race Lap: 2:37.784 (92.359 mph), Christian Franck, 2008 Margin of Victory: 0.069-second, Ara Malkhassian over Dean Copeland, 2012 Previous Winners: 2006: Jason Saini 2008: Ryan Schimsk 2009: Todd Lamb 2010: Brad Rampelberg 2011: Dean Copeland 2012: Ara Malkhassian Wisconsin Rush Patrick Gallagher may not be the traditional hometown hero, but he is the closest in geographic vicinity to the four-mile road course. Gallagher, of Thornville, Ohio, also has some history at the scenic racetrack that none of his competitors can match. During the fall of 2012, Gallagher earned the title of SCCA National Champion after winning the Formula Enterprise race during that year’s SCCA Runoffs. An SCCA National Championship is not only the most coveted award in North American amateur motorsports, but is also held in high regard by many racers who make a living driving racecars. Gallagher would like to add his name to the list of past SCCA Champions who have enjoyed long careers in the pro ranks, like Roger Penske, Bob and Scott Sharp, Boris Said and Indy 500 winner Bobby Rahal. Story Leads The SCCA Pro Racing Mazda MX-5 Cup Series Presented by BFGoodrich Tires goes back to a course that has become the favorite of many drivers from all over the world, Road America. At just over four miles in length, the circuit has something for everyone. Elevation changes, long straight and a combination of slow- and high-speed turns have led many drivers to call this the ‘Spa Fracorchamps’ of North America. As the penultimate stop on the 2014 calendar, the Championship picture is beginning to come into focus as we head toward this weekend’s event. Currently, Koch sits atop the point standings with a 5 MX-5 Cup Weekend Facts and Story Leads 55-marker lead over John Dean. While Koch’s lead may be sizeable, the championship battle is not over. All one needs to do is ask John Dean how a little tough luck can affect your season. Koch, of Glendora, California, can head to the scenic course with confidence running high.

The Andretti Autosport driver had a 2.312-second advantage over the No. 2 Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing car driven by Patrick McKenna of Dublin, Ireland at the checkered. Both Karam and McKenna were in Mazda- powered Van Diemens. Tonis Kasemets of Mundelein, Ill., who won a similar race here Saturday, finished third Sunday in a Zetec-powered Van Diemen fielded by Pabst Racing Services. Karam stretched his advantage to 4 seconds by lap seven and was never threat - ened with his No. 8, which is sponsored by the Michael Fux Foundation, Comfort Revolution, Bell Helmets, Alpine Stars, Walters Web and artrotundo.com. The real story was the battle for second. McKenna started in that position only to lose it to Kasemets working lap two. McKenna, who is sponsored by Motor - sport Ireland and Willsborough Transport, was in hot pursuit in third place, how - ever, followed closely by Liberty Motorsportsʼ Matthew Powers of Danville, Calif.
