hese past three years directing the Patron’s office have been a joy. One of its greatest privileges has been getting to know you, Tvisiting your different chapters and hosting you at the Vatican Museums. I appreciate and admire your commitment to the arts. It occurred to me that it would be wonderful for you to have the chance to meet one another and share that common love of beauty, faith, and travel, so I am inviting patrons, friends, and their families to join me and Liz Lev to tour the art, faith, and food of France this summer!

France has produced amazing saints as well as dazzling monuments, and I would love to accompany you to this world of witness through beautiful lives and beautiful art. We’ll start in Paris, home of the can-can and the cathedral, tackling the paradox of faith and secularism. In our visit to the , we’ll learn about how the antagonism with the Church that founded that great museum, yet grew into such close collaboration with the Vatican Museums, that today we regularly share artworks, ideas and projects.

We’ll see the cathedral of Chartres, the finest synthesis of Gothic art and architecture on the continent, reading the history of salvation proclaimed in mesmerizing stained glass. From there, we’ll journey to Normandy in the footsteps of heroes, saints and yes, even angels, as we visit the beaches of Normandy and the Bayeux tapestry, an object whose splendor and importance can scarcely be overstated. We will pray at the tomb of St Therese of Lisieux as well as the gravity-defying medieval abbey of Mont Saint Michel.

Art historian and certified sommelier Liz Lev will be our guide and lecturer, illustrating the fascinating connections between France, the Eldest Daughter of the Church and the See of Peter, as well as recounting the history of the art, the people and the places in her own inimitable way. And, as you have come to expect on all patrons events, we’ll have wonderful Masses in special places, followed by fine food and spectacular wine.

Hope to see you this June, A Bientot!
