A

Cut the lengths of thread that will become the mainmast shrouds (137). Pass each up through the maintop, between the mainmast and main , and then back down through the maintop. Adjust the shrouds until they are positioned at equal lengths on either side of the , then apply glue to the points where 137 they rest on the chock of the maintop to prevent them from moving.

B 137 Tie the end of one of the shrouds 135 around a 5mm (F). Apply glue to the shroud to fix the deadeye F in position and cut away the excess. Wrap some 0.1mm thread around the doubled section of shroud above the deadeye. Following the same process as on the foremast, connect the two with a lanyard (135).

601 SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step ™

C 137 Continue the mainmast shrouds. Remember to use only 5mm deadeyes and to connect them only to the 5mm deadeyes of the chainwales. Repeat for the other side.

D 137 Prepare and rig the mizzenmast shrouds (138), following the same process as for 138 the foremast and mainmast.

E

To prepare the (parts 136), cut lengths of thread according to the parts list on the rigging plan. 136 There are two methods for rigging the ratlines. The first, shown here and in Step F, is more work, but it will create a more authentic look. Start off by tying the end of the first ratline around the first shroud.

602 SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step ™

F

Stretch the ratline out and tie it to the next shroud. Continue on like this until the ratline is tied to all of the shrouds, then move up and repeat the process until all the ratlines are fitted. Apply some glue to the knots to secure them.

G

The second method of rigging the ratlines is faster and easier, but it won’t look as good. Apply glue to the first ratline, hold it taught over the shrouds until it is fixed to them, and then move on to the next one.

H

When the glue has dried, cut off the excess thread extending past the first and last shrouds. This applies to either process for rigging the ratlines.

A G Cut lengths of thread, according to the plan, to create the futtock shrouds 139 (139), and tie a 4mm deadeye (G) to the end of each length. Secure the deadeye with glue, and when dry, pass the free end of the futtock shroud G 139 through the hole at the end of those drilled in the .

B

Pull the thread down until the deadeye rests against the top. Tie the futtock shroud to the corresponding shroud 139 below, and apply glue to the knot.

605 SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step ™

C

Continue this process to rig the remaining futtock shrouds. Repeat for the other masts.

D 140 Cut the fore topmast shrouds (140) according to the parts list in figure B G of the rigging plan. Pass them between the topmast and topgallant mast above the crosstrees and glue into place. Tie a 141 4mm deadeye (G) to the ends of each shroud. Connect the deadeyes of the shrouds to those of the futtock shrouds with lanyards (141).

E

This is how the fore topmast shrouds should look when rigged. Repeat this process for the main topmast shrouds (143) and the mizzen topmast shrouds (144).

606 SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step ™

F

Use 0.15mm thread to create the ratlines (136 and 142). Remember to 142 secure them with glue and to cut off the excess.

136

G

The foremast should now look like this.

H

Cut lengths of thread to create the fore topgallant shrouds (145). Tie these shrouds to the mast, above the hounds – see figure B on the rigging plan to find the correct location. 145

607 SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step ™

I

Pass the ends of the shrouds through the holes at the edges of the crosstrees.

145

J

Tie the ends of the fore topgallant shrouds (145) to the fore topmast shrouds, just above the . Apply glue to the knots to secure. Repeat for the main and mizzen topgallant shrouds.

D 150 151 Cut the fore topmast stay (150) and fore topmast (151) according to the parts list on the rigging plan (figure 151 C). Tie the stay to the fore topgallant mast, above the crosstrees. Pass it down through the pulley on the port side of the 150 and back towards the foremast. Tie it to the first column (circled). Tie the preventer to the topgallant mast, above the cap. Pass it down through the hole in the , down through the top hole in the port side of the , up through the bracket, then back toward the foremast. Tie it off to the second column (circled).

E 154 153 152 Prepare the fore topgallant stay (152), the preventer (153) and the stay 151 (154) according to figure C on the rigging plan. Tie one end of the topgallant stay and preventer above the hounds, and 150 the royal stay below the of the topgallant mast. Pass them down through the holes in the bowsprit, back through the dolphin striker and then the brackets, and finally tie them off to the columns. The topgallant and royal stays should be tied off to the first and second starboard 151 152 columns, and the preventer to the third port column. 153 154

A 16

Tie the yard (13) and sprit yard (16) to the bowsprit and 13 jibboom with the goosenecks (L)

L

B

Prepare the spritsail (part 169). Tie one end of the line to the block aft of the dolphin striker below the bowsprit (arrow with dot). Next, pass it through the block in the centre of the spritsail yard, then back through the first block, and repeat. When the thread has passed through both holes of both blocks, take the end back to the belaying pins in front of the foremast.

169

617 SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step ™

C

Follow the diagram (inset on the right) to secure the line (169). Lead the line around the bottom of the pin and then the top, to form a complete turn. Then apply three cross-shaped turns by looping the line around alternate sides of the top and bottom. Secure to the rail with glue.

169

D

Prepare the sprit topsail halyard (170). Tie one end of the line to the block forward of the sprit topsail yard (arrow with dot). Then pass it through the block in the centre of the sprit topsail yard and back through the first block, and repeat. When the thread has passed through both holes of both blocks, tie the end to the column as indicated in figure Q on the rigging plan. 170

E

Prepare the bobstays (part 171) and adjust them until the ends are positioned equally on either side of the hull. Tie one end to the eyebolt on the port side (arrowed) and the other end to the corresponding eyebolt on the starboard side of the hull. Glue them into place and cut off the excess thread.

618 SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step ™

F

Retrieve the anchors and 1.5mm thread (cut this into four pieces, roughly 200mm in length). Loop one end of the thread through the ring at the top of one of the anchors and fold it back up, then wrap the doubled section with a 20mm length of 0.15mm thread and secure it with glue.

G

Tie a 4mm double block to the ring with 0.15mm thread, as shown.

B D

H

Tie some 0.15mm thread around the anchor near the top and bottom of the shank, and secure the other ends of the threads to the top of the (arrows) with a knot and glue. Insert the end of the cable into the outer hawse hole and apply glue.

619 SANTISIMA TRINIDAD: Step by Step ™

I

Drill a hole in the cathead and glue an eyebolt into it (circled). Cut a 200mm length of 0.15mm thread. Tie one end of the thread to the eyebolt and pass the other end through the block attached to the anchor. Pass the thread into the first hole in the cathead (1), then through the next hole nearer to the hull (2). Take it down and back Cathead through the second hole in the block, from above then back up through the cathead (3 or 1 3 4) and tie off to the column, as shown. 2 4

J

Repeat Step F to prepare a second anchor. Tie this anchor to the gunwale with two lengths of 0.15mm thread, aft of the first. Glue the end of the cable into the inner hawse hole. Repeat Steps F-J with the other two anchors on the starboard side of the hull.
