Cucullanus austropacificus n. sp. is characterized by the presence of cervical alae, ventral sucker, alate spicules 1.30–1.65 mm long, conspicuous outgrowths of the ante- rior and posterior cloacal lips and by elongate-oval eggs measuring 89–108 · 48–57 lm; C. gymnothoracis n. sp. is similar to the foregoing species, but differs from it in the absence of cervical alae and the posterior cloacal outgrowth, in the shape and size of the anterior cloacal outgrowth and somewhat shorter spicules 1.12 mm long; C. -

Phylum-wide nematode phylogenetic hypotheses have mainly been based on nuclear rDNA sequences, but more recently complete mitochondrial (mtDNA) gene sequences have provided another source of molecular information to evaluate relationships. Although there is much agreement between nuclear rDNA and mtDNA phylogenies, relationships among certain major clades are different. In this study we report that mtDNA sequences do not support the monophyly of Ascaridida, Oxyurida and Spirurida (clade III) in contrast to results for nuclear rDNA. Results from mtDNA genomes show promise as an additional independently evolving genome for developing phylogenetic hypotheses for nematodes, although substantially increased taxon sampling is needed for enhanced comparative value with nuclear rDNA. -

Hamdan3 1Tegnervägen 6B, 641 36 Katrineholm, Sweden 2Department of Biology, College of Education for Pure Science, University of Baghdad, Iraq 3Department of Biology, College of Education for Pure Science, University of Tikrit, Iraq *Corresponding author: [email protected] Abstract: Literature reviews of reports concerning the parasitic fauna of fishes of Salah Al-Din province, Iraq till the end of 2017 showed that a total of 115 parasite species are so far known from 25 valid fish species investigated for parasitic infections. The parasitic fauna included two myzozoans, one choanozoan, seven ciliophorans, 24 myxozoans, eight trematodes, 34 monogeneans, 12 cestodes, 11 nematodes, five acanthocephalans, two annelids and nine crustaceans. The infection with some trematodes and nematodes occurred with larval stages, while the remaining infections were either with trophozoites or adult parasites. Among the inspected fishes, Cyprinion macrostomum was infected with the highest number of parasite species (29 parasite species), followed by Carasobarbus luteus (26 species) and Arabibarbus grypus (22 species) while six fish species (Alburnus caeruleus, A. sellal, Barbus lacerta, Cyprinion kais, Hemigrammocapoeta elegans and Mastacembelus mastacembelus) were infected with only one parasite species each. The myxozoan Myxobolus oviformis was the commonest parasite species as it was reported from 10 fish species, followed by both the myxozoan M. pfeifferi and the trematode Ascocotyle coleostoma which were reported from eight fish host species each and then by both the cestode Schyzocotyle acheilognathi and the nematode Contracaecum sp. -

CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION Until recently, little attention was given to the study of the parasite fauna of the black bream, Acanthopagrus australis, Gunther 1859, especially the study of the taxonomy of its endoparasites. The ectoparasites of this species were studied by Roubal (1981) who produced what is considered to be the most complete description of the ectoparasite community on any Australian fish (Roubal, Armitage and Rohde, 1983), and recently Byrnes (1985) conducted a comprehen- sive study on the ectoparasite fauna of all four Australian bream of the genus Acanthopagrus. There are several studies concerned with endoparasites of fishes in Australia, e.g. Johnston (1914), Nicoll (1915), Baylis (1931, 1934, 1944, 1948), Hickman (1934), Wool cock (1935), Johnston (1934), Crowcroft (1944, 1947), Johnston and Mawson (1945a, 1945b), Johnston and Edmonds (1951), Mawson (1957), Manter (1966), Cannon (1977) and Kruse (1978, 1979a, 1979b); some of them are on black bream (e.g. Nicoll, 1915 and Johnston and Edmonds, 1951), but none of them is a comprehensive and intensive study. The black bream is an important food fish in New South Wales and Queensland. It comprises about 6 percent of the total fish supplies in New South Wales (Roughley, 1951, 1963). Cucullanus epinepheli sp. n. differs from its congeners mainly in possessing a unique structure of the anterior, elevated cloacal lip with a large posterior outgrowth covering the cloacal aperture and in the presence of cervical alae and two small preanal papillae on the median dome-shaped precloacal elevation. This is the second known nominal species of this genus parasitising fishes of the family Serranidae and the second representative of Cucullanus Müller, 1777 recorded from fishes in New Caledonian waters. Procamallanus (Spirocamallanus) sinespinis sp. n. is mainly characterised by 10–12 spiral ridges in the buccal capsule, the presence of wide caudal alae, three pairs of pedunculate preanal papillae, two unequally long spicules (465–525 µm and 218–231 µm) and by the tail tip with a knob-like structure in the male, and the broad, rounded tail with a terminal digit-like protrusion without cuticular spikes in the female.
