Dear Students and Parents, August 6, 2018

August 29, 2018, the first day of school, is fast approaching. Following is the schedule for high school students to pick up schedules, buy ASB Activity Cards, yearbooks and get locker assignments:

Freshmen & Juniors ~ Thursday, August 23 Sophomores & Seniors ~ Friday, August 24

Schedule pick up will occur in the hall in front of the office in the south wing, 402 East Fifth Street, between the hours of 9:00 - 11:00 A.M. and 1:00 - 3:00 P.M/closed 11:00-1:00 P.M. Please enter the building through the Fifth Street entrance. It is important that students pick up their schedules on the assigned day.

FEES for the 2018-19 school year are as follows: Cash or check only, exact change preferred. ASB Activity Card ~ $31.00 Yearbook/Personalized ~ $65.00/$70.00 Lock ~ $5.00 *** Yearbooks need to be purchased prior to January 18th. No Extra copies will be ordered. ***

LOCKERS - Students who elect to use a locker will have one assigned and must purchase a lock for $5. Personal locks are prohibited. $3 is refunded when the lock is returned at the end of their senior year. All lockers must have locks on them. For reasons of health and safety, students are responsible for the locker assigned to them and sharing of lockers is not permitted. MHS Administration reserves the right to inspect lockers at unannounced times. Money or other valuables should not be kept in lockers. The school is not responsible for theft of any item from a student locker.

GET PLUGGED-IN TO SCHOOL  Teachers reserve the right to deny the use of portable communication and other electronic devices in the classroom. Teachers may also allow the use of portable communication and other electronic devices in the classroom for specific and limited educational purposes. Students are expected to honor the teacher’s restriction of communication devices or to use such communication devices only in educationally appropriate ways when allowed in the classroom.  The use of these devices is permitted before and after school, during the lunch period as well as during the passing time in between classes.  Possession of a digital camera, cell phone or other electronic device capable of making an audio or video recording in restrooms, locker rooms or dressing areas is also prohibited.  Discipline for violating this policy includes, but is not limited to: o First Offense: A warning and the device will be confiscated. Student may pick up the device at the conclusion of the student’s school day. o Second Offense: The device will be confiscated and the device may only be picked up by a parent or guardian at the end of the student’s school day. o Third Offense and for subsequent offences: the device will be confiscated until the next school day. A parent/guardian will be required to attend a conference with an administrator and the student before picking up the device.

FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL, All classes meet STARTING AT 8:10 AM Students will report to their first period class for orientation on the first day of school. First week class schedule is as follows ~ 1, 2, 3, 4, lunch, 7, 5, 6. During orientation students will receive information regarding the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act, Free & Reduced-Price Lunch Program, the school calendar and student/school policies.

24 HOUR ATTENDANCE LINE- Please call 882-9130 to report if a student will be absent or needs to leave early or will be arriving late to school.

ATTENTION ALL ATHLETES - The Idaho High School Activities Association mandates that all athletes’ complete eligibility forms prior to the first practice! All students are required to have a Physical examination prior to his/her first 9th and 11th grade practice. Interim history forms are required during the 10th and 12th grade years and must be submitted to the principal prior to the first practice. Forms are available online only now. Activities Fee– The Activities Fee for Freshman, JV and Varsity activities is $60.00, you can register and pay online at www.registermyathlete.com/schools/ or bring cash or check to the MHS office. If you pay online there is a small service fee per transaction. Coaches will no longer accept payment. STUDENT PHOTOS -Wednesday, September 12th, is Picture Day for all students. Since these identification pictures are used on ID/ASB cards, yearbook pictures and permanent files, students are required to have one taken. Remember there are to be no hats, dark glasses or special costumes in the photo. Picture packets for purchasing pictures will be made available prior to Picture Day. MHS OPEN HOUSE - Wednesday, September 12, is Moscow High Open House Night beginning promptly at 6:00 P.M. and ending at 7:15 P.M. in the MHS auditorium. This is your opportunity to meet faculty and staff and learn more about the curriculum at Moscow High School.

Subject: Moscow High School notice to Opt-Out of Military recruitment lists Section 9528 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 as amended by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 requires school districts to provide the United States Military Recruiting Command with a list which includes the name, address, and telephone number of all high school students registered in the district.
