With the top two playing the bottom two elsewhere in Group H, Bulgaria and Norway are in urgent need of three points as they battle for third place in their UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying section. Previous meetings • Substitute Håvard Nielsen scored the winner as Norway defeated Bulgaria 2-1 in Oslo in their first Group H meeting on 13 October 2014. • Martin Ødegaard came on as a substitute for Norway in that game, aged 15 years and 300 days, to become the youngest player to feature in a UEFA European Championship game. • Bulgaria's record in 13 internationals against Norway is W6 D4 L3 (W3 D2 L0 in Sofia – W3 D2 L3 in Norway). Norway have won both of the nations' 21st century meetings 2-1. Disciplinary • Bulgaria defender Veselin Minev and midfielder Svetoslav Dyakov are both a yellow card away from a suspension. • Norway's Håvard Nordtveit and Jone Samuelsen are both a booking away from a one-game ban. Form guide • Bulgaria ended a four-game win-less run in Group H with a 1-0 success in Malta last time out; they are unbeaten in two competitive outings (W1 D1) since Ivaylo Petev took charge. • Bulgaria have not won in four competitive home fixtures (D2 L2) since a 6-0 success against Malta in FIFA World Cup qualifying in March 2013. • Norway's away results in Group H (W2 D0 L1) have been better than their home results (W1 D1 L1).

Trivia and links • Bulgaria midfielder Aleksandar Tonev and Norway counterpart Stefan Johansen were team-mates in Scotland at Celtic FC before the former moved to this summer. • Bulgaria have had the better of the nations' eight UEFA age-group competition meetings: W4 D2 L2. • In terms of club competition meetings, Bulgarian sides' record in seven meetings with Norwegian counterparts prior to the start of the 2015/16 season was W3 D3 L1. Most recently, PFC CSKA Sofia beat Viking FK 2-0 in a 2005/06 UEFA Cup group stage game.

6 Bulgaria - Norway Thursday 3 September 2015 - 20.45CET (21.45 local time) Match press kit Natsionalen Stadion Vasil Levski, Sofia Head coach Ivaylo Petev Date of birth: 9 July 1975 Nationality: Bulgarian Playing career: PFC Litex Lovech (twice), PFC Olympic Teteven (loan), PFC Spartak Varna (loan), PFC Cherno More Varna, PFC Spartak Varna, PFC Rodopa , PFC Dunav Ruse, PFC Marek Dupnista, FC Trikala, PFC Lyubimets 2007, PFC Etar 1924 Coaching career: PFC Lyubimets 2007, PFC Ludogorets Razgard, AEL Limassol FC, Bulgaria • Midfielder Petev's best days were at Litex Lovech in the late 90s, when he was part of the squad that won the league in 1998 and 1999. In 2001 he lifted the with Litex. • In 2009 he became player-coach of second division Lyubimets. • In 2010 he moved to Razgrad to start the Ludogorets project with club owner Kiril Domuschiev. In 2011 he guided the team to promotion to the Bulgarian top flight. • In 2012 the newcomers won a historic domestic double in their first top division campaign, then added the Bulgarian Super Cup. In 2013 Petev's Ludogorets retained the domestic title, but in the summer he was sacked after the first leg of their UEFA Champions League qualifying tie against ŠK Slovan Bratislava. • In October 2013 Petev took over Cypriot side AEL, steering them to second place that season. • In November 2014 he parted ways with AEL and a month later assumed the Bulgarian national team helm following the dismissal of Luboslav Penev.

Per-Mathias Høgmo Date of birth: 1 December 1959 Nationality: Norwegian Playing career: Gratangen IL, FK Mjølner, Tromsø IL (twice), IFK Norrköping Coaching career: Gratangen IL, Tromsalden UIL, Tromsø IL (three times), Fossum IF, Moss FK, Norway (women), Norway Under-21, Rosenborg BK, Djurgårdens IF, Norway • An industrious winger, Høgmo's playing career peaked with a 1986 Norwegian Cup success with Tromsø; he then turned to coaching, leading local clubs and helping out with Norway's national youth teams. • Coached Norway's women's side from 1997, winning Olympic gold in 2000, before being asked to spearhead the men's Under-21 squad, a position he left in 2003. • Following a second spell in charge of Tromsø, Høgmo worked as a television pundit. A subsequent return to club football with Rosenborg in 2005 was ill-fated: he quit the next year, having been signed off with health problems. • Returned to coaching, again with Tromsø, in 2008, securing some solid league finishes and two attempts at UEFA Europa League qualifying before heading abroad for the first time in his career to take the reins at Swedish outfit Djurgården in 2013. • Appointed Norway coach in September 2013 after Egil Olsen agreed to step down, penning a four-year contract.

EURO finals: The UEFA European Championship was a four-team event in 1960, 1964, 1968, 1972 and 1976 (when the preliminary round and quarter-finals were considered part of qualifying).

From 1980 it was expanded to an eight-team finals and remained in that format in 1984, 1988 and 1992 until 1996, when the 16-team format was adopted. UEFA EURO 2016 was the first tournament to be played as a 24-team finals.

Records of inactive countries A number of UEFA associations have been affected by dissolution or splits of member associations. For statistical purposes, the records of these inactive countries have been allocated elsewhere: therefore, all Soviet Union matches are awarded to Russia; all West Germany – but not East Germany – matches are awarded to Germany; all Yugoslavia and Serbia & Montenegro matches are awarded to Serbia; all Czechoslovakia matches are allocated to both the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Abandoned/forfeited matches For statisical purposes, when a match has been started and then abandoned but later forfeited, the result on the pitch at the time of abandonment is counted. Matches that never started and were either cancelled or forfeited are not included in the overall statistics.
